as an addition to the discussion, three members of my bullseye shooting club bought those mis-marked model 25s, all came from Gil Hebard guns of Knoxville, IL., as ordered model 25-2's.
two of the three would key-hole 45 bullets at 25 yards, mine was fine. the other two were returned to S&W for new barrels, which were marked correctly when they came back, and they shot accurately with no key-holes. we were interested in shooting the guns, not collecting, at that time. Mine is still in its original factory box with its original mis-marked barrel.
If my memory serves me we heard of several others that were returned because the barrels would key-hole shots, even at 25 yards.
Just to add to the discussion.;
