How many 629 5" versions were there?

Just wondering - including Classic's, Classic DX's and all dash versions, how many different 5" were there?

Not sure but I think they started at-2, and I'm pretty sure they all are classic series full lug guns plus the DX marked ones, they all pretty much have the same profile and look

I may be wrong but with the 5 inch Bbl DX's I believe they were only dash 3 and dash 4's. mine is a dash 3 but some on the forum say theirs are dash 4's. Hope this helps.

I think you are probably right that all 5" DX's were -3's, at least according to what I can decipher from the SCSW entry on DX's.

Aside from the use of MIM parts, the frame mounted firing pin and the internal lock, I wonder if the probably tighter production tolerances from the current production 163636 Classic 5" could match the fit, finish and accuracy of the legendary 1992-only 103642 DX 5".

If all the DX 5" were indeed -3's, then durability from the inclusion of "endurance package" features on the current gun would make an interesting argument to just spring for a new one and not wait in vain for a 5" DX - a photo of which I include to show what I'd been hoping to find.

Thoughts and comments from the guru's?

Get a-6 and shoot it has much has you can afford, and continue the hunt for-4 DX and when the right one comes along pull the trigger on it, just my 2 cents but that's what I'd do

I must admit to both being one of the ones who said their 5" DX is a -4 AND being incorrect. I obviously knew mine was a -3 when I bought it but over time, the rounded rear sight tang and round butt meant it just "had" to be a -4. Well, after reading the quoted post, I reviewed the 629 Classic DX page in my SCoSW where it says all 5" DXs were -3s made in 1993. Still not a believer, I withdrew my DX from my safe, swung the cylinder open and read the following: "MODEL 629-3."

I guess I got my 629s and 686s mixed up. Or can I claim old age? Brain phart?
