How Many Calibers

Too many beers to be able to concentrate. But I did notice I have .221, .222, and .223.

7 - reload for 3 - I have a pretty decent stash of factory even for the ones I reload. I never stockpiled 12 gauge but have enough to get by. Seems like shotshells are a bit more available than others. I have a Mec set up for 12 gauge just never really thought about it since trap loads were so cheap. I focused on 357 and 44 mag, just made shooting them much cheaper.

I think about 10.....

Some I reload for friends like Arisaka,.44 Mag and Spanish Mauser, so I don't use those as much.

9mm, .223, .38/.357, 30-06, 7.62 Russian all get a workout. 7.62 SKS WILL get a workout when I'm all set up.

The words 'ammo' and 'shortage' will never be in a sentence together, if 1] you are a reloader, 2] you properly prepared your inventory after Mr Clinton, 3] you cast your own bullets.

EDIT, answer the question: Handgun and rifle makes 12 calibers, but I have about 40 die sets that are / have been used for reloading.

I've pared my collection down to 6 calibers/gauges.
.22 LR
.22 Magnum
9mm
.45 ACP
7.62 x 39mm
12 gauge.

I reload for a couple of them.
Since I've consolidated my calibers, it makes it much easier to stock up on ammo for the ones I still have.

You guys are missing out if you haven't tried .38 Super and 28 gauge.

Need to update...
Forgot about the .410 and the .50 and .44 black powder smoke wagons.

Guess that brings me up to 16.

Cool stuff, AJ. I'd load for .327 Federal, if someone made one I liked.

That .38 ACP, is that the precursor for the Super, or is that something else?

This was interesting for me, but likely for no one else. Once, 47 rifle cartridge chamberings represented 19 calibers. With handgun cartridges, there were 10 representing 4 calibers.

Today, numbers are at 14 (calibers) and 20 (chamberings) for rifle and 3 (calibers) and 5 (chamberings) for handgun cartridges. Many rifle cartridges I used to load were for rifles chambered for wildcat cartridges. Despite learning a lot about handloading, rifles chambered for these cartridges are long gone and I don't miss any of them. I've come to appreciate loading and keeping up with fewer cartridges, but it remains a chore, a pleasant chore.
