How does the story go? Far, far away and a long, long ago. I was a Special Agent with the Office of Special Investigations conducting Criminal and Counter-Intelligence investigations. Got to do all the travel that I ever wanted to. Now I'm satisfied to just stay at home.

36 years, 11 months and 50 weeks into my career, all local L/E. Retired twice, once going back to my same position (Lieutenant Colonel) and the second time to take a chiefs job at a smaller agency.

31 yrs FD: 9 yrs reserve FF, 9 yrs Engineer, 9 yrs Captain, 4 yrs Division Chief. Hmmm, according to the rule of 9's I have 5 years to go 'till retirement. Also 25 yrs EMS with 8 yrs as flight medic and 7 yrs SWAT medic. (Gee, I must be about 99 years old by now. No wonder I'm so tired.)

10 years active PD. 10 more to go. I am counting the days at this point planning on my 3rd career.

34 years as a California LEO. 32 years of it in City PD's and 2 years as a Deputy Sheriff. I also did about 8 years as a City Police Chief/Director of Public Safety (Police/Fire Departments).

I'm retiring on August 21th from my City Police Chief position. It has been a good 34 years; however, I am staying on the Department as a Reserve Police Officer so I can still go out and "push the patrol car" once in awhile....
