To be honest, I'm not sure if I have more guns or more guitars...I'd have to think about it and that's too much work. :D

I've got Gibson, Fender, Epiphone and Squier electric guitars. A Yamaha acoustic electric....a fairly new model called an A1R (love it). Also a Fender Jazz Bass.

Amplifiers...whole 'nother topic. :D

So...how many is too many?

been playing the same Gibson Thunderbird since I bought it new in '77. Other than my Squire fretless, that's it.

At one time I had about 25 guitars, today just three, A solid body electric MIJ Telecaster that I hotrodded, an Epi Joe Pass jazz box with 59 pickups, tune-o-matic bridge, and billet knobs, and a Martin 00 acoustic . All my amps have been replaced with a POD processor and a 15w Fender Blues Jr.

G-Mac,

Just remember all the onstage ROCK STARS and what they've done onstage with guitars.

GUITARS ARE DANGEROUS WEAPONS!

Many of these Rock Stars are also KNOWN AND CONVICTED drug users.

Many Rock Stars have displayed behaviors as a PSYCHO.

Rock Stars have been known to have LARGE COLLECTIONS of these dangerous weapons (guitars).

Should we BAN the GUITAR because of the actions of a few Rock Stars and the fact that it can be a dangerous weapon?

I THINK NOT!

I've had many guitars and many guns and it's never enough. I have played in a band with the guys for 12 years and it is nice to change guitars and never be tied to one guitarand I fellthe same way at the range with guns.

I visited a guy once who had over 100. That seemed excessive. I'm down to seven (but kinda looking) and that feels about right. Storage can be a problem.

I have to disagree, Moonman. No one "needs" that many guitars. And there's nothing in the Constitution about the right to bear axes.

Wyatt Burb,

You must have missed the TV show when Red Jacket Firearms had a

Letric Git-Tar conversion that was some type of firearm or diversionary explosive device also.:D:eek:

I currently have 35 guitars and my son has 7. I gave him a choice of my pieces for his HS graduation (within reason) . He chose my '58 Reissue Custom Shop Les Paul. He's become a very good player and his collection is mostly USA made and pretty impressive for an 18 y.o!

My guitar collection is way larger than my handgun collection and by far my biggest passion. I have many Strats, Teles, Tom Anderson, G&L ASAT, Gretsches, 5 PRSs, Taylor, Gibson acoustics, Gibson solid and hollow bodies, Rickenbackers, pre CBS P bass, old Danelectros and my new fav a Duesenberg "Mike Campbell". Most are custom shop, custom made, one-offs, LTD editions and vintage pieces. All have some degree of collectibility. They date from the '50 thru today.

I'm personally not a Les Paul person (not to start a debate, just my preference-but I do love the sound). I typically play a Strat, Anderson, Gibson cs356, SG or a PRS McCarty or Custom 24. On the few acoustic songs we do, I play a Gibson Dove (if we plug into the "house" PA), or a cocobolo Taylor 814ce if amped. And of course the requisite 12 string acoustic (Gibson) on "Hotel California"!

I buy and sell a few here and there, but mostly I just collect. At one time I was up to 48. I think at that point I was a borderline "hoarder" and just flat out was running out of room! I feel my collection is manageable in the 30's. Some, like handguns, are just "case queens" but most see daylite (just not much stage or road time). Others are plucked most everyday.

FYI, I figure I do more than 150 string changes per year! Forget the time on other related tune-ups, scratchy pots, intonations, cleanings, etc. I recently soldered 18 shorted-out guitar cables. I do that at least twice a year. I swap out about a dozen amp tubes per year. Just dusting the stuff is a line item. My hours as my own "roadie" are too frightening to think about.

Yeah, let's save amps and foot pedals discussion for a different day!

As many as my wife let's me buy LOL! I have accumlated few over the last 35 years...68 LesPaul (my baby :) ) Hamer Archtop, 72 Fender Mustang, Souped up Squire Strat, Peavey T-60 and a Seagull electric accoustic....Love em all for diferrent reasons.

I only have three. Just enough for me to enjoy, and in case somebody comes over I have enough spare equipment for the two of us to play together without them needing to bring anything over.

It's all about how many square foot you live in. If you're the typical starving artist, living on op's couches or in a van by the river, two might get cramped but, if you've got the space and the bills are paid, buy em til you're broke if that's what strums your string.

well lets see ... Guitars should have something like caliber stamps on them. they are not created equal.
for warmth of tone you need a good Martin acoustic, two in fact, six and twelve string.
electrics ... well there we have solid and hollow body six strings you'll be needin one each.
then thanks to Steve Vai they cooked up a 7 string solid body. later on an 8 string. at least one of em is worth adding.
this would seem to put us at a count of five but then there are fixed bridges and trems. the Floyd rose trem is probably best kept to solid bodies in six and seven strings ... so thats a seven guitar figure ...
oh wait a moment .. DiMarzio offered a huge line of pickups ... game over theres no way to place a hard fast number on it

I'm down to six. Only 3 are players, New Hagstrom Swede, Takimine acoustic and a Mini Gibson Flying V. Two are projects, Hagstrom Viking from the early 70's and a Vox Hurricane from the mid 60's and one is a wall hanger, Sears Silvertone.

Nothing fancy but the players are good players and the projects used to be too but I wore out the Hagstrom and the Vox needs to be wired, I already cut out a new pickguard and have Duncan single coils for it.

I sold off three last year and a couple of amps too. I'm down to 4 amps.

My hands are pretty beat up these days but I still play a little and am teaching my 62 year old friend to play. He's doing pretty good.

I have a bunch more gear laying around than I use but can't seem to put a price on it. I might need it for something.

If a deal comes my way I'll have more. I can't help it. :D

"How many guitars are too many?"

I submit this depends on who is playing the guitar. :)

Just kidding. I hope you can afford as many as you want.
