How many guns before my wife says "Enough"?

For harmony in the home - that's a question you should ask her. Even before I retired from police work I never owned more than three pistols. Some people want more than others. You should check your needs/wants from inside the home not from a bunch of internet cohorts, if peace and harmony is what you seek.

DenverSteven is like Yoda. Very logical, very balanced advice...

But really, this can get out of hand fast... I already had a few pistols when I became interested in some of the S&W pieces. Since February I've picked up a Bodyguard, M&P 22, and I just connected on a brand new 40c off gunbroker. I can't wait until it's delivered this week. I've been reading the thread about the 'allure of the Shield'. In my search for a 40c I've come across a few 40s that I could have gotten, but I just think the compact will be a more versatile choice for me...but I'm still thinking about it... I don't think I need it, but I kind of want it...

Hard question, man...

If the bills are getting paid on time and there is food in the kitchen and the wife has a car to use.........send her out for more ammo while you go gun shopping!!!!!!!!!!!!;)

Every family situation is different. My wife encourages buying more guns............she even went out a couple of years ago and got another gun safe so I wouldn't leave the extras laying about the house!! Gotta luv her.........

If you can afford them no one else gets a vote.

Enjoy the hunt.

Wife does'nt care what i buy and i don't care what she buys.
As long as there is enough money in the account and bills
are getting paid. BTW she likes to shoot too....

The other day I was cleaning half of my handgun collection and my wife asked: That's all your guns? My instant answer was: Yes my love!!! She said: Wow, you have a lot :D:D:D

We have a "Don't ask, Don't tell" policy at home. I don't ask her if that's a new piece of gold/diamond jewelry or Coach bag she has, and I don't tell her "Honey, look what I just bought!". She has her "hobbies" and I have mine. As long as bills, groceries, and savings are taken care of first, then life is good.

My wife doesn't care much about shooting, as she prefers sharp pointy and edged weapons... ( I guess that as a member of Clan Kennedy, she comes by that naturally.:D) But, it was SHE who recently suggested that I apply for membership at the local sportsman's club when they announced that they had openings again, so I'd have not only a more convenient place to shoot, but another social outlet.

Of course, she wants to use the archery facilities...;)

The only gun I have that I haven't shown her is one of those "nasty black assault rifles" (As she calls them...), though I did tell her I was wanting to get back into competitive shooting again, and some of the "Three Gun" matches looked very interesting...

I think she's ok with it for now. She gave me a CCW class gift certificate for Christmas and was trying to find a holster for my FS .40 for my birthday. Told her mom and sisters to give me gift cards to my local gun shop for my birthday.

She's always ready to go to the range with me. She saw a Ruger LCP with a laser at a gun show and said "OOOH!, I like this one". I guess something for HER should be next. Although, I did wash and wax her car this weekend. Maybe that's enough...

When my wife responds that way, she's not talking about my firearms.

Ba da bump!

Pretty neutral when it came to guns when I was younger. My family doesn't hunt, so firearms were never part of the equation.

Then, my sons were born and the images of Katrina flashed across the TV screen. It was THEN that I made the decision that I couldn't wait until the cops came to save my ***.

Told my mom...her response..."What do you need a gun for? Call the cops." Total ignorant thinking that the media and government brainwashes the unknowing public with.

Asked my wife (sheepishly), "What do you think about us getting a gun? See what happened in N.O.?"

Wife's response: "Ummm, never thought of it. Let me ask my mom, I think she has a gun." A few days later..."I spoke to my mom, and they have 15 guns!"

So, I take that as an open ticket (money willing) to protect my family. :D

Following Aurora, CO theater shooting, it became apparent that I was getting complacent. So, the CCW app went in. Following that, it dawned on me that I needed a lot of ammo given the election results; bought >$1000 in ammo on Nov 8 (plus, I just became a member of a gun club to practice, so we needed ammo) was a sticker shock for her, but it has proven correct. Following CT shooting, it had become apparent that SHE was getting complacent, so the added ammo with another CCW app in the works are IMO good foresight.

Guns and ammo are good as gold to me. There's resale value, and it's like buying good term life insurance. Having the cash for it is the hard part because none of it is cheap.
- firearm
- ammo
- accessories (gun holsters, mag holsters, lasers, rail accessories, safes, cleaning supplies)
- gun club membership (unless you live in the boonies).

Guns and ammo don't mean spit if you don't have the training to go along with them.

"Owning a gun doesn't make you any more armed than owning a guitar makes you a musician." -Col. Jeff Cooper

You've got the first part, now get some quality training.

It's a matter of priorities: Do you want to stay married? Keep the kids in college? Pay the mortgage? Eat?

If she says "Buy one more gun, and I'm leaving" Do you say "I'll miss you"

For single guys: Does your match.com profile say "Looking for woman with a minimum 24-gun safe. Send picture of safe."

All of my brothers long guns wear the same color and model case. She watches them carried out to the truck, carried in to the safe. She doesn't keep a tally of in and outs, and doesn't know the safe combination.

Just saying.

"What she doesn't know won't hurt her?"
"Don't ask, don't tell?"

Seriously?

In our house, most every financial decision is made openly and in concert. Been married 33 years and keeping it that way for another 33 depends on honesty and respect.

My ole lady use to be on of those garage sale types. She would wake up early on Friday and Saturdays just to go look at garage sales.

Now days she wakes up early on weekends and heads to the LGS just so she can ask her favorite question of all time "Do you have any new Kimbers in". I dunno what it is about her and Kimber, but I believe my love for 1911's is wearing off on her.

Just last week i caught her carrying my Kimber Ultra as her CC weapon. I never would have thought my ole lady would put her shield 9mm down for anything. And of course she uses the excuse "I like em big". I guess she meant the .45 compared to her 9mm, LMAO.
