How many have bought a firearm just because they had ammo on hand?

Yes, I fell into that trap today. This morning Ivan and I swung by an out of the way gun shop neither of us had previously visited. Surprisingly they had a reasonable assortment of new and used firearms in stock. I picked up a CZ M70 in 32 ACP, not because I needed it but because it was modestly priced and I have a fair amount of 32 ACP ammo and components on hand. As an added bonus digging through my stash I have a shoulder holster which fits this pistol from some European police force.

Sometimes I wear bib overalls and one time I got too thinking about some old people and .32 Owl Head revolvers. I couldn't find an Owl Head but I found a S&W. I bought a couple of boxes of bullets. Later on I found an Owl Head and bought it since I already had plenty of bullets and the Owl Head was what I really wanted. Later on I found a H&R that was nicer than either one of my other guns so I bought it. I don't care how many more I find I think 3 guns and 2 boxes of .32 S&W is my limit. Larry

I've never purchased a firearm BECAUSE I had ammo for it.

As it turns out, I've had ammo for every gun I've bought since about 1990.

That's either a measure of how focused I am in buying guns or a measure of how unfocused I can be when buying ammo.

I have thought about it-
During a previous situation, the Warehouse had a Laminated Stock LH Savage in 17.
And they didn't have much ammo, but they had big boxes of 17.
The ones that look like a small version of the GI box.

Invest in .38 Super in today's market?

This is a 1993 Colt Government Enhanced in stainless steel.
The grips are American Holly.

I've managed to find a few boxes of ammo on the shelves when there were no other selections. Because of the .38 Super ammo, I bought this beauty.

I'd recommend .38 Super to anyone who hasn't tried it.

Today it's a wise move to check on ammo price and availability before branching out.

Right now .380acp has me scratching my head. I'm just guessing but my thought is that a large number of new found pistol owners bought a .380 pistol. At the critical point of new gun ownership they probably can't get in range time that they would really benefit from because of ammo conditions now.

My pest rifle is a left handed Savage 93 in 22 mag. During that same shortage you mentioned I could not find 22 mag ammo anywhere but found a left handed Savage 93 in 17 mag, which I bought. I set both rifles up with identical scopes and use whichever rifle I have the most ammo. As a plus magazines are interchangeable.

Pretty close. I just bought a little Colt Pocket Positive because it is a 32 S&W Long and I have some ammo and a fair amount of reloading components in that caliber. I only had one other gun in that caliber and figured it would be a lot more worthwhile to reload for it if I have a couple of guns chambered for that cartridge.

I used to help a friend who had an FFL but primarily was in the estate liquidation business. When an estate had guns she would dispose of the firearms and she would pass on the ammo and reloading equipment on to me. I accumulated 5 or 6 partial boxes of .25 ACP (usually with less than 15 rounds missing). So when a nice old Galesi showed up at my LGS for $65 I bought it to work on the .25 ACP stash.

Somewhere out there is a 480 that will be mine. I bought ammo years ago at Cabelas because it was 1/2 price. I have ammo for several calibers I will buy.

Yes I have... I'm a sucker for a good deal! I've got a bunch of ammo for guns I don't own.

I've even bought guns because I had a nice holster for them. I've also bought guns just to get the grips, stocks or scopes off them.
