How Many Have DUMPED their J-Frame for a NEW MINI Semi-Auto?

I still like the revolver over auto for carrying myself but that's my choice not saying anyone else is wrong .As far as round count goes my motto is by tne third shot I'm already gonna be runnin anyways so it don't matter

I'm admittedly a Glock fanboy. I nearly always ccw one of my two Glock 19s, but during the summer months it is a 442 Airweight. While I don't doubt these newer "pocket 9s" (and in some cases 380) work fine, I am uncomfortable with carrying anything other than a Glock or a S&W revolver. Have been for years. I also, admittedly, hate change.

I am confidant with my 60yr old chief special or the 40yr old series 70, 1911.
I have played with a number of the minis and have found none to be dependable enough. The only one I sort of liked was the Sig P238, but $$$$$$.

I FIRST START CARRYING A MDL 60 AS A RECRUIT AS BACK UP. CARRIED IT FOR 20+ YEARS. I LATER PICKED UP A 642 AND CARRIED FOR YEARS AS WELL. PICKED UP A SECAMP .32 AND CARRIED IT. THAN A SECAMP 380 & CARRIED IT FOR SEVERAL YEARS. FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS I'D CARRIED A 8 SHOT 317 2" .I ALWAYS POCKET CARRIED . THE J FRAMES WORE HOLES IN THE PANTS BUT THAT WAS ACCEPTABLE. THE SECAMPS HUNG IN THE POCKETS LIKE A ROLL OF QUARTERS. SMALL CONCENTRATED WEIGHT. TODAY I TOOK DELIVERY OF A RUGER LCP. I HAD BORROWED A FRIENDS TO PLAY AROUND WITH. THAT SOLD ME. I LOOKED AT ALL 3 VERSIONS OF THE LCP. I WENT WITH THE ORIGINAL VERSION. WHY? IT CARRIES VERY EASY IN THE POCKET. WITH EXT. MAG IT HOLDS WELL, SHOOTS FINE AND 7+1 (380)IS 60% MORE THAN 38SPL. JP

I stand by my words. Selling a $400 or higher J-Frame in order to buy a $200-$250 LCP or similar pistol doesn't make sense on any level. If someone can't afford to buy one of those without having to sell or trade a more valuable, more reliable and more powerful concealable revolver to get it, then they have issues.

And don't cross reference my threads that have no bearing on the subject at hand in order to belittle me, I don't like it.
I think your reply illustrates the point of my post way better than anything I could have said.

My carry gun philosophy has changed over the decades. In my younger days I carried a Colt Combat Commander as primary with a Detective Special Colt as backup.

Now I have come to use a wheelgun as primary and semiauto as backup. I have two J frames a 360PD for it's super light weight, and a 640 Pro Series for it's great night sights and comforting weight. I shoot it better than the 360PD.

Best of all if I actually need to use it is my 547. The larger K frame still conceals well in Appendix carry and I have found a sticky pocket holster carried ISWB allows positioning the larger gun for either comfort or conceal-ability.

I will always choose a revolver as first to fight, it's just faster to employ and will always fire even with a poor grip. You can't limp wrist a revolver.

For back-up a 3G Smith is my go to gun when the revolver runs out of ammo. NY reload beats any other type of reload when the chips are down.

My 3914 DAO is a favorite for it's size and weight but my 4040PD isn't much larger or heavier and the .40 is preferred for it's greater impact.

Being a fan of the .45 (bigger is better) I also like to carry my 457 with Big Dots for fast target acquisition, and I will soon have a melted 4516 with Big Dots to add to my carry guns (it's at my FFL as soon as I can pick it up).

But junk my J frames? Never gonna happen. The 547 K frame may be my carry gun of choice and a .45 as backup to it my first choice if SHTF, but a J frame and compact 9mm will always be my favorite when "going light".

I've actually gone in the opposite direction. Very rarely do I carry a semi auto pistol these days with the exception of a Seecamp on some occasions. 99% of the time I have a J-Frame with me.

Still a Colt Detective Special (last model) or a S&W Air Weight J Frame. However, the new Ruger LC9 "Pro Model" after 500 rounds is getting bumped up. Good size and feel in my hands, great trigger and very accurate. Only mod made was to replaced the factory standard with night sights.

I actually did the opposite.

During my full time LE career I usually carried a Model 60 as an off duty gun. Later, I carried a Kahr PM40 off duty. When I retired I went to either a Kimber Solo or a Kahr P380. Then I found a 940. I qualified with the Kimber, the Kahr and the S&W 940 for off duty (I am currently a reserve officer). I have not even removed the Kimber or Kahr from the safe since I got the 940.

Since I started my career with revolvers I was always partial to them. When I go to the range next month I doubt that I will even take a semi auto with me for qualification (other than the issued gun). I will take my 940 and 629-6 fixed sight 2.5 inch which I carry loaded with .44 specials.

I guess I'm just an old revolver guy at heart.

I made the mistake (twice) of trading a j frame for a small auto... won't happen a third time... if I'm not carrying a full size 9mm (which is usually the case) it's "Five for Sure" from here on out for me. Get a 640 and don't look back ;)

I'm happy with my 642. I don't feel any need to switch my style of pocket carry, even though the newer semi-autos hold a couple of more rounds.

I know this is an old post, but I got a "like" on it, and thought I'd update my remarks. Since the time I last posted, I moved into a couple of different cc choices: a model 60, which I rotate with a Sig P290RS. I like the 60 for working around our place, and the Sig goes with me to town.5

I either carry a 637, a 36-1, or my shield. on occasion I carry my SD9VE - just depends on my mood- they're all great shooter and reliable.

I am traveling to a high-risk city area today so I have the Glock 26 and the 22 round back up magazine. But the 442 is my go to when back in rural America.

I like revolvers but as soon as the GLOCK 43 came out, I dropped my 442 like a bad habit. Thinner, one more round, more powerful, easier reloads, etc.

Not me. Bot a Kimber .380 Mini. Put CT on it & took it out to range. Kept hittin the mag release almost every shot. Sold that *** & went back to my J's. All is well.

We own several J-frames since about 1980....but I have been carry a G-26 as my EDC for about 15 years.
Ms. gamboolgal carries a Sig P-938 as her EDC most of the time, but does take her S&W snubbie alot also.
