How many mags?

I have 5 between my M46 and my M41 but would like to have around 5 more. My 92FS has 4 as well as my 45APC also.

For several years my Sig 229 has been my "go to" gun, I probably have 30 or more mags for it. I suppose my lowest is 2 for my old High Standard .22. I probably have 20 for my various 1911's and 8 or so for the HP's. I am going to order some of the Korean mags for my Glock 19 and build that number up. There is probably 6 or 8 for the 669 and 8 for the Sig P6. In other words, invest as much money as you can in mags in case they dry up again.

Have as many mags for each pistol/rifle you feel you could ever need and then don't have to worry! What works for someone else might not work for you.

5+, more if hard-to-find...

I like to have at least five for each pistol, although for any model I own that's been discontinued, I'm always keeping an eye open for bargains. As an earlier poster said, I'm not too worried about being able to find certain magazines -- 1911 magazines, for example -- so my "radar" isn't up for those all the time.

As for rifles, on the other hand, for any models that I own that might someday be restricted by the gov't, I try to keep more magazines handy. I had about thirty FAL magazines, for example, before they were all lost in a tragic boating accident a while back.

I average 6 per pistol, running from zero for a junked and parted out single stack Makarov to a combined 41 for my 1006, 1066, 1076 and 1086.

Now if we start counting Garand en-block "Clips", how many can you fit in a 5 gallon bucket (Un-loaded)? I picked them up at a garage sale a few years ago. I was told "$50 and you can have them ALL."

4 for the 4003, 4 for fs M&P,3 for 9c.
Have as little as 2 for my CZ82 to as many as 15 ( at under $2each) for my Cetme I built.

As Many As You Can Afford

Considering without a magazine your gun (auto) becomes a single shot, get as many magazines as you can afford. It is always better to have too many than not enough. I keep at least 10 magazines for each auto I have with 5 loaded at all times.

Minimum of 4 but, I am always on the lookout and buy some when I come across a good deal. Point is, you can never have too many mags.

I currently have nine standard-capacity magazines for my M&P 9, and will add more if I find the right price. I'm just not comfortable with the way government intrusion is going, so the more I can get now, the better. My other guns are single stack, so I go for four to six for those.

You guys who think that your gun without a mag becomes a single shot aren't thinking it through.

Many if not most semi-autos will indeed close the extractor over the rim of a cartridge that is already chambered, but chances are it will only do so for a limited time before the extractor breaks. They're not designed for such work. Some will do it seemingly forever, but I wouldn't want to count on it.

The MINIMUM number of magazines I like to own is four per pistol. Some magazines are REALLY expensive. Think out of production HK semiauto pistols.

That being said, I feel pretty comfortable having 6 or 8 magazines for the semiautos I may need to rely on some day.

For a few pistols, I keep extra magazine springs (as well as a few other springs) on hand. If you buy a bunch of springs from Wolff at the same time, the shipping cost isn't so bad, per spring.

Depends on the gun in question. I prefer to not have less than four for each gun but sometimes I am satisfied with three. An example is my 4040PD, I only have three for it. I don't carry it anymore and three is enough for a "collector" gun that takes expensive mags. I have four for my CS45 because it came with two and I lucked into two more cheap at a gun show. If not for that I might only have the two originals because the mags for my 457 and 645 will fit in the CS45 although they do of course hang out (with the resulting increase in firepower:D). I also only have three mags each for a couple of "pocket" pistols like my Ruger LC9 & KelTec P32. My standard answer though is a fellow must have at least one "combat" load out, plus one in the gun. For a handgun that may be three, for a rifle it may be seven. After those amounts you are getting into preparation, which is a good thing as long as it is not "hoarding" and just plain silly. Although I do have a silly quantity of HK91 mags bought for around a buck a piece!;)

Handguns, no less than 4 and up to somewhere around 15 per.

Rifles, no less than 10 and somewhere around 50 per.

When magazines go bad, they go bad. Since the mag is essential to a semi-auto platform, beating the snot out of a mag or two will eventually have them wear out much quicker than if you cycle through "a few".
