How many pemits do you have and which states ?

MA resident. NRs from NH, ME, FL and PA (won't renew this one).

And I filed a request with my current police chief last week for LEOSA credentials. We'll see if that happens as there was no chance under his predecessor.

ETA: Due to TSA's security theater, I no longer travel by air and realistically only rarely travel to RI and CT, spending most of my time in MA and states North of MA. However LEOSA will give me the ability to carry and teach my classes in RI and CT if the opportunity arises.
I'm curious, is this a department that you previously worked for?

WI-I don't really need one anywhere else as I'm disabled, wheelchair bound and don't drive. As well I was diagnosed fairly recently with a rare form of leukemia which doctors have classified as "terminal" so I stay pretty close to home-I do get to the range though not as often as I'd like.My state was one of the last hold out states for permits- along with IL & CA- until just a couple years ago.I was ecstatic when I received it and continually study to increase my knowledge of lethal force laws, etc.I would feel vulnerable at times going out alone at night in my power chair.
Love my M&P9 (full size)!
P.S.I apologize for the long winded reply.

Yes it is. During my 17 years I worked for 3 chiefs, 2 gave us IDs (this was way before LEOSA) while active, the third one wouldn't give us the time of day! So I never even asked him.

The new chief (apptd last July) worked his way up the department and he knows me from the past and my current activities in town, so I asked him and he said to write him a letter (I gave it to him in April, he was on vacation most of May) and he'd consider it. I just sent him an Email tonight reminding him and asking when he'll get to it.

MA lobbied against LEOSA so their implementation violates Federal Law intentionally. You MUST maintain a MA LTC to be eligible for LEOSA and I'm sure that is true even if you move out of state and qualify where you live (hope to test this out in a year or two myself). A MA NR LTC cost $100/year, takes 4-6 months to get even on renewals, requires an interview annually in Chelsea, MA and is a royal PITA. The "annual qualification card" you must carry with you is a 8.5x11" sheet of paper so it can be shredded carrying it in your wallet!

My like was for your post, not for the situation that you find yourself, through no fault of your own, in. Most of the country can only watch and wonder about the mind set of certain legislators and their actions. We here in the free states wish you well, and hope that some day you will be able to join us. in many states, mine included, and in a growing number of states, if you live here, and are leagally able to own a firearm, you can carry without a permit. If you choose to get a permit, it is easily obtained, and I believe reasonably priced, and ours, at least, has reciprocity with something like 38 or 39 states. I have LEOSA also, but I maintain a state permit, sort of belt and suspenders protection. If I happen to be away from home when my annual recertification comes up, I'm covered by the permit until I can take care of it.

Best Regards, Les

les.b,

Thank you. My chief responded this AM . . . he said that he is looking for my personnel file. That jogged my memory that I was told by officers who witnessed my first chief burning our files back in 1984 (just prior to his retirement due to cancer) and sort of confirmed by my second chief asking us to fill out job applications and claiming our files were missing. That second chief allegedly prohibited his successor from entering the PD until after he left (retired), so I wonder if he also did the same thing? No idea what my third chief may have done with my old file either (I left the PD in 1996). I just told the current chief to get service dates confirmed by the Town Clerk as she has outstanding records of our being sworn in each time and they are all in one or two books. We'll see where this goes!

I went to Front Sight, took the CCW class and got Arizona, Florida and Utah. I could do without either Florida or Utah, can't remember which is better. I live in California and am working on that one.

Just Texas, because I have no desire to be anywhere else. So, unless God Himself appears in front of me and tells me to move, I'm here for the duration (and not just because of our gun laws). Fortunately, most other states honor my Texas license, and those that don't, well, I'd probably never travel there anyway, except for maybe just passing through an airport.
