I carry a 640 Pro with a speed strip with 5 rounds on it. Sometimes also drop a NAA 22 Pug mag in my pocket in a holster depending where I'm going. I know not the best backup but better then nothing.

Five in my 442 and two loaded five round quick strips.
Depends on what I'm carrying
M&P Shield 1 magazine and one reload= 16 rounds
S&W6906 1 magazine and 2 reloads = 36 rounds
S&W 4006 1 magazine and 2 reloads =33 rounds
SOON TO BE M&P 9mm 1 magazine and 2 reloads = 45 or 51 rounds (depending on which magazines I can find)
Magazines are small. Unless concealment is the prime consideration why not carry 2 ?

Five in my 37 and one speed loader. I'm retired and mainly stay in good areas.
I'm rethinking it though and may start carrying one of my 1911s and two spare mags. Times are changing and my FIL's neighborhood is going down.
It'll be easier too now it's getting cooler and jackets to carry a 1911 and extra mags.

In retirement a 442 plus a 6 round speed strip. If I need more than I'm probably someplace I shouldn't be.
UPDATE: The 442 has been replaced w/a 340PD, still w/one speed strip and on occasion an LCP w/a spare mag. I do keep add'l ammo for both in the center console of my car.

I carry 11 in my Glock 26 (9mm) with an extra 10 round mag attached to the holster.
The ammo is Federal hollow point +P+.

21 Total. Shield 40, 6+1 and 2 extra 7 rounders. If you're using "new" math, 56 would also be correct.

I carry 7 in the weapon, and 2 extra mags with 6 in each, all the time. That's daily carry.
It totally depends on what I'm carrying.

When I carry one of my J-frames it's the chambered 5 rounds and usually 1-3 speedstrips, or maybe speedloaders (depending on clothing & pockets).
I still shoot my 6-rd revolvers for enjoyment and occasional quals, but seldom carry one.

Well, my pistols have varying magazine capacities of 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 & 12 rounds. I typically carry a spare mag ... maybe sometimes 2 spare mags (depends on the the activities & situations) ... except when pocket-holstering the LCP in jeans with limited & tighter pockets, and then it's usually just the one mag in the gun.
I'm not what someone might call a 'capacity snob', as I'm not overly concerned about sheer capacity.
I only own 1 pistol that even uses 'hi-cap' mags, and those are only 12-rd mags. I also own a bunch of 10-rd mags for it, too, and due to the mix of all the mags, it's often a toss-up whether I'll pull the 10 or 12-rd mags for carry or range use for that pistol.
I started carrying a 6-shot revolver as a young cop, and then did the hi-cap pistol thing for many years (due to work), but capacity of magazines hasn't exactly been a high priority in the selection of pistols I bought over the years.
Guess I spent too many years thinking a 7-rd 1911 mag was just fine ... although I do own a handful of modern design/manufacture 'hi-cap' 8-rd 1911 mags.

Anywhere from 42 to 50 depending on if I'm carry my wheel gun or my auto on an average day. If things have been "dicey" in the area lately I may double the ammo count. I am a very large man and the way I dress I don't have a problem concealing the ammo or a large firearm. I'm an OLD Eagle Scout that lives by "being prepared."
That's the beauty of it all we can carry what we want

If I were to think I might need more than 12 to 18 rounds, I need to find better places to hang out, or start carrying a long gun.
Any combination of gun and ammo I carry has to be of minimum weight because anything more keeps pulling my pants down unless I wear suspenders which aren't always appropriate attire.

When I used to carry a high-cap auto from time to time, I usually only loaded the spare magazine half-full to lighten my total load. Anything heavier kept pulling my pants down.
Carrying both magazines full did not seem necessary to me, as the likelihood of my needing 30 rounds or more in a self defense shooting situation was pretty remote.
If I ever felt the need to carry the 3 to 5 extra magazines of ammo (and sometimes an extra gun) that some guys do, I either need to move, change my lifestyle, or both.

I carry my VP9sk with a 13-round mag. Occasionally, I will carry an extra 13-round mag...but not often.

My EDC is a Glock 27. Ten in the pistol and a ten round reload mag, so 20 total. If I carry my model 66-5 it's six in the gun, plus one speed loader and a speed strip, so 18 rounds.

I started LE with revolvers in 1977, so for years, it was my duty revolver with two dump pouches/speed strips or speed loaders, plus a j-frame back-up. Off-duty was the j-frame and two speed strips or speed loaders. Once we started carrying semi-autos, it was two spare mags for the duty auto and the j-frame. Off-duty remained the same when carrying a revolver; two spare reloads. If carrying an auto, I always carried one spare magazine. It didn't matter if it was a single stack, or later the double stack pistols, it was still one spare magazine.
Now in retirement, I've finally started to get used to the idea that the likelihood of me being involved in a shooting situation I couldn't avoid was greatly reduced, due to being retired. However, for me it's still two reloads when carrying a revolver, and a single magazine reload when carrying an auto.

Unfortunately, in today's society, bad things just don't happen in bad areas. I live in a very nice area, and this happened just up the road.
