How much 22lr do you have now?

ok I was wrong for the first time this week :)
22LR on hand is 30K :) looked again tonight in my "lock box" and what I had bought recently
 
I have 1200 rounds of 22lr at a cost of about 14 cents a round because that's my limit on the amount I can store. But I'm in the uk where the firearms laws are ****. Got about 1500 12 gauge. Least I can have as many as them as I want
 
Be prpare-- i keep approx twenty five thousand .22 lr, twelve thousand .223, five thousand .308 and a thousand or two for each caliber in my "gathering" of firearms with the exception of some of the obscure calibers or pistol ammo (9mm, 45acp, .380 .32 etc. for which i keep multiple thousands). This is not a new idea as i have always kept many thousands of rounds on hand for things I shoot often like .30 carbine (6000) and replace spent ammo via purchase or reloading.
 
I found some 100 round 22lr mini mags and 50 round Remington in the red and white box totaling 2000 rounds bought in 1967. I have purchased more since. Funny thing is 22lr back then cost $1.98/ mini mags 100 pk and 98 cents for the Remingtom 50 pk. Seems like prices now in relation to 1967 are not as bad as we think. Looks like we went through a really good stretch with .22lr and prices now are closer to 1967 in todays dollars.

I was 12 and living in Detroit during 67 riots. I remembering being scared when a few of my dad's cop buddies warned him that there was talk on the rioting leaving the poorer areas and moving toward our neighborhood near the Redford border. My dad then produced a 12 ga that I had no idea he had. I felt a little more secure. You are right about closing all the gun stores. After the riots were over, my uncle went on a gun buying spree and made sure neither he or my dad would be in that situation again. Nice thing, most were never or barely fired and mine now. I really lucked out.

actually I know him and have to buy a couple beers for him on Friday nights or when I get to see him for putting all my UPS in my garage :)
the dam fedex guy leaves it on the deck to get stole or rained on
 
Like the OP I had one .22 revolver and life was simple. Now 40 years later I have over 20 hand guns six of which are .22 and a .22 M-1 carbine. Now I worry about .22 stock piles. Got it up to about 3,000 rounds and feel comfortable with that. When I go to the range with my SW22 or M&P .22 compact I shoot 100 rounds. The revolvers not as many.

i shoot other calibers, but for sheer fun i prefer 22lr.
i shoot 200-300 rounds of that every week, so i need lots on hand.

I haven't counted but guess I have probably over 10,000 rounds
whenever I go into buy something else the clerk says have some 22's I say throw them in. I have several guns that shoot them but I am a .40, 9m, .357 and .45 long shooter, with them I roll my own.
 
After the San Bernardino shootings and the media exclaiming how much ammo the terrorists had my wife wanted me to inventory all my ammo, put it WAY down on my honeydolist

Enough to shoot a bunch every single day. And still have enough to last through the next few elections. Plus .22lr has been abundantly on the shelves for the last 2 years. So if anyone around here runs out. Theres plenty to be bought at wal-mart.
 
I haven't purchased 22LR since 2012...it has gotten to be too crazy priced. Fortunately for me, before that I had about 14,000 rounds stashed. For me being a reloader it is cheaper still today to shoot center fire 9mm than it is for me to plink with 22. I can load 9mm for just shy of 10 cents per round, and make as much or a little at a time I want. My LGS used to carry 500 round bricks for $12.99 and I would typically pick up 1 or 2 each payday, just to have them...currently I am down to about 4500 rounds and for the replacement cost, I just won't shoot them.
 
If anyone else, aside from myself, has the unfortunate displeasure of living in the Democratic Republic of Illinois....there is hope!

As of yesterday, Cabela's in Hoffman Estates, IL has a lot of 22LR available. Some as cheap as 6.5 cents per round.

Browning BPR box of 400 for $26
CCI Mini-Mags 100 for $8.50
Winchester Super X 100 for $8

And about 5 or 6 others like Norma TAC 22 and standard velocity CCI, etc.

Additionally, I was talking with one of the guys working in the ammo section and he said that they are scheduled to receive more shipments of 22LR in the next week. He seemed to imply that our shortage may be nearing its end. Who knows if thats true so, for now, buy as much as you can. I picked up 800 rounds of BPR and another 800 mixed between Mini Mags and Super X.

Online I can find .22lr for 6 cents a round, depending on how much I buy or if I pick it up at a store I can get it shipped free
 
Let just say north side of 10k for 22lr.
2k of 9mm
1k of 40sw
1k of 45acp
2k of 12 gauge (birdshot).

2016 has been good for firearms, but better for buying ammo and magazines for me.

400 rnds of 38sp. 1600 rnds of 9mm. 1100 rnds of 45acp. 1400 223. Of course, this changes all the time.
