How much does powder and primers cost around the country?

Hope for Primer Prices

I finally found the details to post some information. A case, 5M, of Federal small pistol primers was $116 + Haz Mat fee from Grafs about 2 weeks ago. A friend gets dealer prices and we split the Haz Mat fee. I was able to buy the case because "I'm a good customer".

We also bought some powder and bulk bullets. My total cost was $710 for my order + freight at dealer prices. Volume buying does work to reduce prices with honest distributors. If you are buying $50 primers, find a better dealer / seller.

At the gun show in Albuquerque last weekend Wolf primers were $50 per 1000. Other brands were higher. Ron Peterson's didn't have any primers at all. I didn't buy at those prices; I'm going to Houston next weekend and we'll see what they have there.
I don't blame you for not buying, especially Wolf primers. According to what I've read Wolf primers haven't gone up in price overseas. The importers and Retail dealers are the ones jacking up Wolf Primer prices. Over a year ago 1000 Wolf primers were only $17, there's no legitimate reason for them to now be $50/k. I wouldn't pay more than $25/K for Wolf primers even though that's too much.

I was in Gander Mnt. the other day and they had primers for $30.00 a 1000.
win. sp, lr and a few others, first time ive seen them there for awhile.
i found a place where i can get them for just over 20 a 1000.

Cabellas here in town have SR and LP primers for $32.50/1K
and are limiting to 1K per person but at least they have them.
They have some powder in stock also.
They haven't had Varget or Uniq for some time but they had Titegroup a day or so ago.

DFW area gun shows (Market Hall two weeks ago and Mesquite/Big Town last weekend).

Powder prices all over the map. Best I saw for 231/296/etc was $25/26.

Primer availability is getting better. Not great, but a number of vendors had some sort of selection. Best prices I saw was Wolf for $35/1000. Everything else was $40+.

It's been my observation that powder prices and availability has been just slightly impacted in the last year while primer prices have doubled (on the rare occasion you can find them.)

Just got back from the Knob Creek MG shoot. Primers ranged from $40 to $50 per thousand. Five or six vendors had pretty good supplies but the $40 primers did not last the day. Powders ran around 26.95 for the normal small container (1lb or less). A buddy and I bought some unique, bullseye and 2400 from Powder Valley in August. We bought 9-1lb containers and split the shipping and haz mat fee. They ended up costing $18 a pound. 8lb containers were not in stock at that time.

South-central PA, primers from $30/k to $50/k, both in shops and at the shows. You just have to go to the shops that sell them reasonably.

Powder is more available here than previously, prices from $20-$30/lb, depending on what make/model. Still no VARGET seen anywhere at shows or shops. Titegroup is becoming available, however.

At the recent shows, I have seen a lot more powder in 4 & 8 lb packages, far more than the last year and a half. Six months ago, you harldy could find 4 or 8 lb cans at all.

Getting better....

I lucked out today. Stopped by the local gun shop, and there were primers and powder on the shelves.

Primers were limited to 500 of each size, and powder to two containers per customer. I paid $3.19 /100 on the primers (they had CCI, Federal, and Remington), and got a pound of Unique for $17. Very happy that I can continue production. :D

Most powders here in SE TN run between $18 and $23 lb, primers, the only ones I've seen are going for $35 to $50 per K.
I'd managed to stockpile 7 to 10k of each over the years, so haven't bought any in a long time.
