Hello everyone,
I have put more (CCI Mini Mag) rounds through the S/W 22LR COMPACT than I can recall, without any issues whatsoever, and while this is a highly debatable topic, because of personal experience, I believe it is the most reliable 22LR semiautomatic pistol on the market.

But I am wondering, even though the Full Size version was made by Walther or by a company that owns Walther, is it of the same quality and as reliable as the COMPACT version? Do any of you own the FULL SIZE and can share your experience with it.
Thanks in advance.

Have owned the full size M&P 22 pistol Shoots with no problems although I've not got the round count you stated. Have shot all of the poplar brands of ammunition and haven't found one it doesn't like.

I purchased my M&P22 full size in 2016. It has about 3000 rounds thru it so far. It likes CCI minimags and Aguila superextra. It has frequent failures to extract with Federal 22LR. I never tried any Remington ammo with it.

Due to Illinois' assault weapon ban, I had to remove my pistol and store it in another state. Apparently the threaded barrel makes this firearm extremely dangerous and unsuitable for civilians to possess in Illinois.

It is not. The ones I shot where not complete junk, but certainly not great.

I actually want a Compact version and am still kicking myself when PSA offered them in the $270-280 range back in 2019 before the panic-demic. I have a Taurus TX22 that I use for range work. After a 250 round break in, it will digest anything, including the cheap stuff. But I still want an M&P 22 Compact.

I have one of each. I like the way the full size fits my hands better, but it is less reliable and more ammo sensitive than the Compact. I have about 12000 rounds through the full size and it will only run reliably with high velocity or hyper velocity ammo. It seems to be more fragile and more lightly built than the US made Compact. It is also easy to bend the ejector and cause extraction failures.

The Compact, with only about 3000 rounds through it, feeds and extracts everything. Mine appears to have a bent barrel or the barrel is mounted skewed as I had to drift the sights a lot to be zeroed at 25 yards, but it runs reliably.

I have the M&P 22 Compact with 6500 rounds; purchased 2015; no issues whatsoever.

I have two M&P22 full size;

MP22 #1 Purchased 2015

Firing Pin Spring fractured @ 10,905 rounds
fabricated a brass guide rod for spring to prevent its buckling which was the cause of fatigue fracture

Ejector loose from frame, second time - red loctite applied @ 18,417 rounds

Failures to extract……..corrected with chamber polishing

Fractured slide roll pin (dynamic failure of roll pin) @ 19,967 rounds –

Barrel Sleeve notch galled….not engaging with barrel block detent…dressed the notch with small file to refit properly.

Recoil guide rod spring replaced @ 20,867 rounds

Every other round a "dead trigger", failure to reset trigger- failure of trigger bar to reset with sear after slide cycling. The disconnector tip is well worn on exposed left side, disconnector spring is worn out 21,000 rounds.

Frame cracked at 22,000 rounds; S&W replaced with a new MP22. At that round count, the pistol becomes a consumable item compared to ammunition cost$.

MP22 # 2 with Vortex optic…..
9,000 rounds No issues ; Purchased 2016
Will run rat-shot suppressed like a sewing machine.

So, just over 31,000 rounds thru the M&P22 full sizes.

I queried S&W many years ago as to a recommended Maintenance Schedule for these 22's......Nothing to share.

That is all.
