Hey folks. We have a 2 day gun show coming to a town near me next weekend. Looking for a gently used police trade in, in either .38 or .357. Haven't been to the show in a couple years now, and I don't really know what the trade in prices are looking like currently. What would be a safe estimate for one, and how much cash do you think I should bring without going over the top?

Thank You

It all depends on what you're looking for.......you can still find recent production Model 10's and 64's in holster worn but mechanically good condition for $2-300. Model 28's, 581's, etc. are going up in price.

S&W cranked out millions of M&P's and Model 10's over more than 100 years, so there are plenty of used examples out there. I have seen M&P's that were probably police guns from the 20's and 30's for as little as $200, just because it's old doesn't mean it's worth a mint.

Around here $500 should get you a pretty good police turn in and still leave you with enough money left over for some ammo if you don't eat the overpriced gunshow junk food.

$200-$300

Bought my 1964 Model 10 that used to be a Virginia Dept of Corrections gun for $225 2 years ago.

I love police trade ins. They're like me. Not the prettiest thing you'll find, but it's seen a lot, and will get the job done.

S&W model 64 police trade ins are usually very good to excellent mechanically. About $250 for a 4" heavy barrel. $300 for a 2" barrel.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Anyone here have any pictures of their police trade in's? If so, lets see them!

Thanks!

I'd love to see these places where you get K-frames for $300 or less. I haven't seen much of that at gun shops or shows around here, except the last show had a decent M-15 4" nickle for $299.

A 64 2" for $300? I'd be on that like zits on a teenager.

Grabbed this 64-3 turn in for $275 OTD recently. Shoots great and with a little Flitz it doesn't look to bac, gonna be my boat gun:

Try Summit Gunbroker. He sells lots of PD trade-ins. AIM has them, too. The gun show sellers likely get them from these jobbers then knock them up a hundred bucks or so to sell to the masses.

My $200 M25 from Summit:

Needed a thumbpiece. Came with rubber stocks.
