How often do you clean your 15-22

Not when it comes to rimfires it isn't. Try asking a precision rimfire bench shooter. They do not shoot a match without at least 50 rounds thru the rifle before hand. Rimfires always shoot better slightly dirty. Cleaning them before they get 1k to 2k rounds thru them is a real waste of time. They also shoot better the drier they are. Only lube the bolt rails. Run a boresnake thru the barrel once and that is it. Clean the dirty parts like the bolt face, breech, and feed ramp. Only use a good CLP. I use Eezox, but Break-Free or SLP-2000 is OK also (just not as good for rust prevention as Eezox).

Is there a reason why rimfire shoots better when dirty?

Complete cleaning, in front of the TV, after every 500ish rounds...not for any reason other than I like to clean it...so easy.

I clean mine after every range trip. I use a bore snake and clean with clp. I shoot around 300 to 500 rounds when I go.

I usually shoot a couple hundred rounds when I'm at the range, so the rifle gets cleaned after each session.

Air Force trained me to clean after a trip to the range. Last trip, I was tempted not to clean it and see how it worked on the next trip.

I clean with CLP and run the bore snake 2-3 times after each trip to the range (typically 300-500 rounds).

I have not noticed any difference in accuracy after cleaning, but then I'm using bulk ammo and happy with 2" groups at 50 yds.

I do the full deal at least once every other trip or 1000 or so rounds. It only gets cleaned immediately after a range trip when I don't have anything better to do.

Seems to shoot/feed just as good on round 1 as round ~1000 for me so far.

I need a bore snake. Any specific brand you guys like?

Keep your wepon clean and in a constant state of reddiness. It may just be a factor that saves YOUR LIFE.

Not to pick any fights, but the .mil's cleaning regime for their rifles is generally busy work. Throw in silly advice like running an M4 dry because "oil attracts dust" and I'm not really going to take much they say at face value.

Taking care of your weapons does not mean cleaning them for a white glove inspection every time you shoot it. It means keeping up with the maintenance and general looking-after-it-ness.

agreed with the white glove inspection. think of how much you are taking off the lands and grooves of the bore if you clean it every time or just clean it for the heck of it. plus pulling pins and such, widen the holes causing pin walk, etc.
i wipe the outside done, and the bolt, blow bottom out with air, then boresnake maybe a couple 3 times a year.

I haven't cleaned in a while. The barrel seems to get to a point then stay about at it. I do need to blow out the FCG though. And the bolt is about due. I go through about 300 per session. Been about 4 or 5 sessions since being cleaned. No issues.

Have not shot my gun yet but a couple of questions.

Do most of you seperate the upper and lower when you clean? The owners manual does not recommend it. Seems like it would be a lot easier to use a bore snake if the gun is in two pieces.

I have read about the "straw" trick to prevent damage to the extractor when using a bore snake. Can someone elaborate on this. Standard drinking straw cut to size?

for some reason I enjoy cleaning just as much as shooting.. I clean after every range session. I think my ocd has something to do with it.
