I carry a 66 or a 60 depending on where I'm going. The 60 is a walk the dog gun in case one of the dogs tied up breaks loose from its chain. I wipe it with an oily rag abt once a week. How often do you wipe your carry gun if it is used every day? Larry

I hit mine with a silicone cloth each time it is cleaned. Of course, since my carry gun is plastic and stainless, it's not all that detrimental. ;)

Since I no longer carry a revolver primarily my maintenance procedures are different. For the Glock G19 I use canned air to get rid of the lint. Minimal lubrication as opposed to dripping wet. Check the magazine and rotate the ammunition if required. For the S&W 640 minimal lubrication also dust off the lint

Hadn't really thought about it.

Good question. Hadn't really thought of it. Like Dennis, I carry a G19, all day every day. I shoot the gun every few weeks and wipe it down then. Also shoot up the carry ammo twice a year. It does get a little dusty between outings. Even though it has never failed, I really should pay more attention.

Rarely

I try to hit the range at least once a month or so, and I always shoot what's loaded in my carry gun first, without doing anything. Primarily to make sure that if I had to use it, it'd work. Of course, after a trip to the range, everything gets cleaned, so that's mostly it. I noticed today that the dot sights were getting grungy :(

Good question! I visually inspect and wipe down my carry piece daily. I remove it from the leather holster at the end of each day and allow the holster to air out, wicking away any residual moisture (leather attracts and holds moisture from the atmosphere, from your body, etc). I shoot monthly, and that means that I burn up what is in the magazines that I have been carrying and replace it with fresh ammo.

After 40 years of daily carrying, it is kind of like brushing your teeth! Just part of the daily routine around my house.

I clean my 642 every week on Sunday night (while watching re runs of the original Star Trek) regardless of if I have shot it or not. Obviously it gets a full clean after anytime I use it.

I try to give it a wipe down every day though with a silicone cloth like many others have mentioned.

Wipe it down and blow it out every couple of days.

Good reminder

I carry a Micro Baby Eagle and I often forget to check it or clean it. Your posts were great as it was a reminder to be more on the ball about the care of the pistol. Thanks

My J's getting pocket carried (even in a pocket holster) do collect a LOT of crud, daily! I've got a 2" hog hair bristle sash paint brush I use. The canned air Dennis mentioned, or an air compressor nozzle work great. Over oiling can cause a lot more issues than it solves on cary guns. Try packing one relatively dry for a week, then pack it "wet" for a week. You'll see the difference quickly.

I usually wipe the frame of my 38 revolver down daily, my Glock gets a field strip wiping daily (since it is so easy to strip & reassemble). Both weapons get a good cleaning about once a week.....PS---it is really cool to be able to add or subtract from your post... Good job Lee & crew.

My Glock19 gets wiped down at least weekly and a full cleaning after the range, which I do about twice a week. My J frames get wiped down daily, especially the "blued" ones.

I carry a snubbie M60. Since it is stainless, then rust is not the primary concern, but it does build up "pocket lint" carried in a pocket holster.

About once a week, I sit down with a Q-tip and a rag and give it a go'in over.

I have been using CRC Marine silicone spray for years. It has kept even my blued handguns free of rust in a salt water beach environment.

I just use a car wax and give it a couple of coats of wax every week. My carry guns are blued revolvers and this seems to work. I use to wipe my guns down with rig every night.

Wow, getting some good responses. When I wipe the 60, its with a cleaning patch with breakfree clp. on it. I'll run a .38 mop with clp on it, in the bore and each cyl hole. I figure after a while the holster will accumulate some oil to prevent rusting. The 66 2 1/2" gets the same treatment even if I don't carry it. Larry

I wipe down with a silicone cloth every day after carrying, whether it's pocket carry, belt carry, or ankle carry.

I normally wipe down any gun I carry all day at the end of the day when I take it off. I always take the grips off my revolvers and make sure there is no moisture under there. It's hot and humid here much of the year and I sweat a lot. Stainless will start to discolor in one day with me. I have never had any problems with corrosion and when you consider that this piece of equipment is carried to defend oneself from serious injury and/or death, it's worth a few minutes everyday to keep it in top condition...isn't it?

I clean mine every week because I shoot it, Weather permitting or if I get rained on JUST MY 2ct

I like your attitude. I wipe a super thin layer of water resistant grease on the grip frame of my carry guns with my fingertip and they do well.

I keep a pile of cotton swabs on my nightstand and groom my guns frequently.

I carry a blued gun (model 38) so wipe it every time I carry. Use a leather IWB so remove the weapon wipe with a light oil film wrap in the silicon rag until ready to reholster and carry the next tim

When I carried a 442 I wiped it about every three days.

Now it's a GLOCK29 and sometimes a couple weeks go by before I field strip and blow out the dust. It gets three drops of oil and is then reassembled, ready once again.

The Taurus gets cleaned when I shoot it, about once every three months. It's in a zipped belly pack the rest of the time. The Beretta gets cleaned about once a month during the two gun league wipped down weekly and carried once a week. Anything else is wipped down or cleaned after carry.

Wipe it down (Colt det. spec.) once or twice a year if it needs it or not, but after my Lab licks off the dougnut crumbs first to snack on. Still carry the same (now 12 yr. old) golden sabre +p's.

Silicone cloth wipe-down every day. Full service, lubrication and belly-button lint removal about every two weeks; more often in the summer heat and moisture.

About once every 3 or 4 days I'll field strip my SW40VE for inspection and blow off any lint and fibers that have accumulated from wearing concealed under clothes. I'll remove and replace the rounds from the magazine just to make sure everything is stacked well and let the mag spring release its tension. I'll lube/clean between range visit if anything looks or feels gritty after blow-off.

Of course, after a trip to the range, the weapon is stripped, cleaned and lubed.
