I've just been offered a 2", fixed sight, 317 for a nice price and was wondering if these have been good sellers. Seems like a nice little piece but I'm not too sure what it's market niche is. I believe they are still in production.
Any thoughts?

Not rare at all, and still in production.
Personally, I don't see the point of any .22 without adjustable sights.
Neat little guns-I just prefer a 34 or 63.

I have one (pre lock) and have carried it a few times on a lanyard around my neck when walking or jogging through the neighborhood for anti dog peace of mind (yes, it's that light). It's a neat gun, but I would prefere the 3" with adjustable sights, too.

317's are usually big bucks and considered special purpose IMHO. If your "nice price " is $100 less than you could snag a 34 or 63 for, then it might be worthwhile . ( You can always flip it if it doesn't shoot POA). Otherwise I'd advise getting the 34 or 63 to get the adjustable sights.
Heck even the Charter Arms Pathfinder isn't a bad little .22 (with adj sights) in that price range.

Thanks for the comments, folks.
Just completed the deal - have to wait 10 days now. Gun is 'pre-lock', price was a 'no brainer' (about 60% of used retail for nice, clean gun w/box - shop was offering the normal 50% to the seller so we both did well). I have a couple of M38s, a 3" 49, couple of 632s and a 940 if I need something a litttle heavier. Not to mention a 3" adj. sight 9 shot, "J' frame, Taurus. Just couldn't pass up a deal. :-)

I have a 2 inch fixed sight 317 and it goes with me a lot. I equipped it with Lasergrips and it is very accurate - light, easy to carry.

Which is why I got the 43C, an understudy for the 442.

I owned a 3" adjustable sight version but much prefer my 2" fixed sight 317.
Everyone has their own preference.

The 317 is a great little revolver. I use it for a practice piece in lieu of my center fire J-frames. Beside the T-grip adapter I put an interesting grip on mine that hooks onto my pants when the gun is shoved inside them. Forget the name of the maker but it's a neat idea and works well.

i thought all the 1 7/8" and 2" model 317 were made with fixed sights..

Well, I've got one of each and both are pre lock. I wouldn't let my snub go for less than $500 if that matters.
