Here is the scoop... I've been carrying a handgun legally for about 10 years and I shudder to think of traveling anywhere that my pistol isn't welcome to come with me but, I MIGHT be able to stomach it if I could at least bring a pistol along and leave it unloaded in the trunk of my car and keep it loaded in my hotel room at night... We have a cousin getting married there soon and my research suggests that I can't even legally bring along a firearm to protect myself while traveling in MD much less carry one on my person? Anyone know if that is true or not? It is truly sad to think that as an American that I can't travel to all states armed...

Thanks!

Correct; depending on what part of Maryland it could be a non-issue

I took a look at handgunlaw us, and it appears you are out of luck based on their research.

Notice:
Maryland has a unit called, “
Maryland Coordination and Analysis Center
.”
They have license plate
reader cameras around the state that read license plates of vehicles. Some are connected to Criminal Background Check programs and Permit/License Holder lists from the different states that will supply them with that information. Do use caution when even driving through Maryland. They can know if you have a firearms permit/license without even stopping you.
Maryland does not honor any other state Permit/Licenses.

Q.
Are out of state handgun permits valid in Maryland?
A
.
No. The only exception is to armored car drivers who possesses a valid
permits from other states, who are on duty in Maryland.

I think too many folks fret too much about being armed all the time. There are so many places one can NOT go armed with anything so just move on. If I can not carry a gun I carry a fighting folder, yes I have training. If no weapon is allowed at all, like on an airplane, have some open hand skills & know how to use alternate items as lethal weapons. It's mostly about being prepared & aware.

MD, while one of the worst states for gun owners has very safe areas and some of the worst crime zones, so a lot will depend on WHERE the wedding takes place. Obviously, DC and "Balmore" are the worst....

What about those of us who are LEOSA certified and traveling through MD armed?

Federal law supersedes state law. That doesn't mean that they can't make your day miserable...but they wouldn't legally have a leg to stand on as long as you carry (federally) legal ammo and your magazines do not exceed the state / local regulations.

LEOSA does not cover magazine restrictions (at this point in time).

Take a shotgun that can be broken down to where it will fit into something that doesn't look like a gun case. That will cover at least some of your bases.
The chances of you being attacked in the course of just a couple days are pretty near non-existent.

Time to take a break from carrying, dude. That sort of mentality is a big warning sign for talismanic thinking.

Yeah it's really communist/draconian over there I guess... Unfortunately the wedding is really close to Baltimore... Kinda ironic that it's so close to DC but, so far from being free...

Looks like they even scan peoples plates to see if they pop up as CCW permit holders.. Maybe time to sell the eastern communist block of states to Canada for what we can as long as they agree to take the politicians that hang out in the DC swamp... Move the white house to Texas...

No doubt that the mindset is IMO even more important that the weapon but, it certainly ups your chances to also arm yourself with a firearm whenever possible but, certainly there are things that go on in life that are worth leaving your gun at home for but, that's a short list for me...

"Really close" is not Baltimore; go have a crab cake or two and enjoy the wedding.

As earlier, plenty of places I can not carry, just be comfortable with what ever skill set you have aquired. Being fit, being aware, probably more important than ccw a gun in about 95% of places you go.
I was just in Florida for a few days, no permit for me there, but I am rarely totally unarmed.
