I have never ship a gun before, always locally FTF deals. What is the correct ways to pack a gun (revolver)? Some are gun only some are with original box and accessories.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Ps. My FFL will ship it for me to buyer's FFL.

I've bought a couple revolvers from forum members here.
One was in the blue plastic S&W box with egg crate foam and one was wrapped in a t-shirt and stuffed into an empty corn dog box.
Both arrived at the FFL in fine shape.
I guess well wrapped in a well fitting shipping carton would work.

Cheep plastic hard case,inside
A strong cardboard box .
Put gun in hard case wrap
Hard case with bubble wrap
Until it is snug fit in box.
You can not pack it to well.
They will not heal if damaged.

cheapskate way.
wrap in new microfiber towel and then stick in a folded over legal sized padded envelope that you have saved for this occasion. Wrap it with tape and it's secure. USPS has boxes that are close to perfect but stuff bubble wrap, newspaper, tshirt ??? to keep it from wiggling.

Take bolt out of the firearm. Bubblewrap it and tape it to the gun. Then bubble wrap the entire rifle. add extra bubble wrap to both the muzzle and buttplate. Stuff the bottom of the box with saved walmart bags.put gun in box.more walmart bagsaround the muzzle and anywhere you can stuff them.wrapping tape on both front and back of box. Depending on how long the box ix rape wraps every 6 inches or so. Take to ups or fedex

I think almost any buyer would appreciate the original factory box, if you have it. If an FFL will ship for you, he needs to see the gun and its SN so no point in wrapping it all up and sealing the box before giving it to him.

Wrapped in bubble wrap and/or paper towels to keep it from shifting, within a cheap plastic case. Since overall box size does matter with required two day shipping, ask your FFL who he uses, and get their priority box, which is usually about 12x15x2.The FFL should have some that he uses himself.

BIG WARNIMNG>>>DON'T WRAP IN JUST BUBBLE WRAP

Wrap in cloth or packing tissue paper before bUbble wrapping. The solvents used in plastics like bubble wrap can permanently damage some wood finishes and few metal finishes like French gray and lacquered case colors.

You might not notice the finish damage on a revolvers grip but I've seen rifles and shotguns shipped in just bubble wrap that had spots from all the places bubble wrap was up against the stock. Those spots wouldn't rub out.

If you pack it, DO NOT seal the box up. The FFL has to see it to get the serial number off of it to record it!

"What's in the Box?!"

Most FFL's will want to pack it in the shipping box . Also , Midway , and probably others , sells the generic S&W plastic box . Buy them and add it to the price , most will appreciate it . BMCM , he holds an FFL , made a post about shipping pistols . He's seen it all , the bad and the good . Bottom line is , ship it the way you would like to receive it .

If shipping a rifle, I find that putting a piece of plywood the same size as the inside of the box at the muzzle end of the box, will prevent muzzle "poke-thru" if the box is roughly handled (thrown).
