Hello, I ask myself how I can date my revolver. It's a S&W model 29-2. I know we can date it with the serial number but I don't know where to read about it.
Perhaps somebody can help me? The serial number is N137XXX.

Thanks very much.

If you want to know about Smith's you can buy the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, in it's 3rd edition now.

I dont have mine in front of me, but a guess is yours shipped in about 1973-74.

As 29aholic has reported, according to the SCSW the N100000 serial numbers are from '73.
29aholic, you got the book memorized?

Hardly, but like Doc says...you look at enough of them you start to get a feel:D

Yeah. I studied the scsw when I first got it. I was collecting some great pieces at the time. I had a 520 nysp nib, 686 6" no dash, 586 4" no dash, 651 no dash, 681 no dash, 15 4" no dash lnib, 17 no dash lnib, and a 610. Then the economy went to hell and the only ones I have left are the 681 and 651. Now I am back at collecting I hope anyway. I will be taking it slow though. I am in the process of acquiring the 29-4 3" from p35fan. Hopefully it will be the first of many 29's to come.

Sorry you had to sell some of your guns. The ecomony does suck and it makes for tough decisions. I have a 686 no dash with 6 inch barrel and a 586 no dash with 8 3/8 inch barrel with an adjustable front sight and they are two of my favorite shooters.

I was not happy about it but family comes first and I had to provide for them. Luckily, there are still alot of great guns out there people are willing to give up for other projects.
