I bought a .22 Mod 61-3 pistol for something my mother can keep I home. Got it from a buddy of mine. But the thing is filthy. I have no manual on it. I just want to know how to tear it down for a good cleaning.

Thanks
Josh

MustangLife03,

1. Remove the magazine from the gun.

2. Pull the slide back to check that the chamber is clear.

3. Hold the gun firmly in the hand, press down the disassembly button on the front of the slide with the index finger. Lift out the front sight while holding the button depressed.

4. Slowly let disassembly button out relieving pressure on the recoil spring.

5. Remove spring and rod from slide.

6. Pull slide to extreme rearward position and lift straight up removing slide from frame.

7. Reverse procedure to reassemble.

Email me your address and I'll send you a copy of the manual.

Oh, welcome to the forum.

Hi I'm new to this forum. I just purchased a model 61-3 and am similarly having difficulties. I have no instructions nor manual and the slide does not retract and hold after the unit has been emptied. Is this an anomaly? or is it simply the design of the gun? If you managed to get the manual I would be very grateful if I could also have a copy. Not sure if I'm supposed to post my email or not. Will continue to watch the thread

Welcome to the Forum. You're digging up an old thread here. I don't own a 61 myself but I recall that they do not have a slide lock to hold the slide open after the last shot.

Thank you for the directions on how to take my Model 61 apart

I am new to this forum but it has already been worth while with the directions for field stripping of my S/W model 61.

I have never been able to get it apart until reading the information in this thread. Now, after thirty years it will get cleaned and maybe even shoot without jamming up as it used to do those long years ago.
