i was reassembling my s@w 9mm pistol and now it is stuck

the magazine is in and will not eject

i guess the thin metal "sear release lever" (part #63) or the "firing pin saftey lever" (part # 20 ) is in the up position and stuck

the slide will not move back or forward due to the lever in the up position

i can press the sear release lever down and trigger goes forward a bit,but the other lever will not move...what to do??????

help!

It does help quite a bit if you tell us exactly WHICH 9mm pistol. S&W has made a few different models and things differ somehat amoungst them. It also helps to let us know exactly what position the slide is in at present.

Kind of assuming 3rd generation (4 digit model number) from your general description. If you can see the sear release/firing pin levers, the slide must not be all the way on the frame rails. Both levers and the ejector must be manually depressed to allow the slide to travel all way onto the frame.

If the slide isn't all the way on the frame: REMOVE THE MAGAZINE!!!!! It doesn't go in until the pistol is completely assembled! EVER! Make it a habit to manually stroke the slide trough it's cycle several times after assembly to make sure everything functions as intended before inserting the magazine.

If the pistol is completely assembled and you're guessing what the problem may be........don't. Sometimes, the recoil spring guide isn't in exactly the right place and the slide becomes uncooperative. If the slide is locked to the rear, look at the recoil spring guide rod. It should be roughly parallel to the barrel. If not, pull it forward, align it and allow it to return to the rear. If the guide rod is now properly placed, the slide should function.
