So I decided to take Stav's advice and make another grip block for the slidefire so I didn't have to swap it out at the range. I can now leave one on the sport and 15-22, and even I want to shoot single shot the stock in the locked position forward is pretty comfortable for me.

So I just marked a rough idea of where I should start.

And I used a multi-purpose heat tool, soldering iron pretty much, with a flat spade tip to cut it. A dremel would probably work just as well, I'd just suggest not doing it in the house.

Than I just eyeballed the preliminary shape. I'd end up having to take a LOT off before it actually fit, the grip is way wider than the final block.

I shaped quite a bit out here

This is after quite a while with a file. If you're not confident in your abilities, I'd suggest taking the block off your rifle. I had to to sand it for final fit anyway.

It slid fairly easy, but I took a little more off after this just in case. It still barely touches on the sides, but it's on the .223 so we'll see. I may have to sand a bit more, but that's not a big deal for me.

That's how she sits now. Slides fairly easy, and it's dry so I figure after some silicon spray it'll be fine. Hopefully I'll get to test tonight!

Oh and I was shaping it with the heat tool while it was on the gun, but if you do this, keep in mind that your gun is made of the same stuff you're cutting through so be VERY careful with whatever method you choose!!

why would you even bother to do that when slide-fire would probably send you one for cheap or possibly free?

Thank you. I was more going for a fun, useful project. I could just get another one, but working on things like my gun, bike, and truck keep me out of trouble. I work a rotational schedule, so I get two weeks off a month to do whatever I want. Doing productive habits keeps me out of the bad ones.
