Ive done the FedEx thing a few times,it was a pain and it cost me close to $100 each.Call a few local ffls and see if one will ship for you.Mine charges $35 and packs them.

I would call a local gun store with a FFL. That way they can use USPS. they will prob charge you up to 35 bucks to do the transfer. Plus shipping charges and packaging.

It is best to try and find a FFL that works out of his house. They are usually more flexiable and a lot cheaper since they don't have as much overhead.

thank you for your replies i appreciate it
i think that is what i will do- local ffl

The best way to do it is from FFL to FFL, because they can use the Post Office. That is, if your FFL is willing to send it for you.
If they do it this way, it can be less than 10 bucks.

If YOU send it (and don't have an FFL), it HAS to be sent by a "common carrier" to an FFL. The person picking up the revolver will be required to execute ATF&E form 4473, and then go through a NICS check. If the NICS check comes up "Proceed", they will be allowed to take the revolver home.

A "Common Carrier" is typically UPS or FedEx. They will only ship firearms overnight, and are EXPENSIVE.

The only thing a "non-licensee" (someone not having an FFL) can send via the mail is a Long Gun (rifle or shotgun). They can ship a long gun to anyone in their state directly, or to someone in another state, through an FFL (with a NICS check on the receiving end).

A lot of FFL holders ship USPS. They are the only ones that can do that by law. They can usually ship US48 for $25. Then they will charge you a fee to ship. My FFL will handle everything for $50 +/-. It really is the only way to ship a hand gun. Call around to some local FFL holders and ask what they will charge. Big dealers will charge more. A guy working from home will be less. Good luck.

Sites such as Gunbroker usually have an FFL finder feature where you put in your ZIP or address, and they will give a list of dealers who will receive for you, plus their distance from your location and how much they charge (which can vary wildly, my dealer charges $10, another local one charges $50 unless it’s Bud’s or Cheaper Than Dirt and then they charge $100!)

When I ship a gun I use a flat-rate Priority Mail box from the post office. I created an account with the USPS so that I can pay for shipping and insurance online, usually about $25, and print out a label at home. Then I pack the gun well (usually in a gun rug), seal the label on the box with transparent boxing tape, include a letter with my info, my dealer’s and the recipient’s, and take the package unsealed to my dealer. It’s unsealed so that he can verify the contents and serial number. Prior to this I have the receiving FFL send my dealer a copy of their license. I pay him my standard fee, he does his paperwork, seals the box and takes it to the P.O. Much cheaper than UPS and FedEx.
