How too much is $900 for...

IMO knowingly paying a little too much is ok
I get annoyed when I find I paid too much after the deal was done

Buy it. Enjoy shooting it that's what it was designed to do not sit in a safe.

If someone told me I had to spend $900 on a short barrel 686, it would be a 3", because of the full length extractor rod.....especially if I have to shoot .357 Magnums.......which are brutal to shoot and extract at times with a short rod. But that's just me.

If he's firm,(and that's certainly his right. He doesn't have to listen to your logic or the opinions of board members)and it's too much for you, what's the point of a discussion? You pay up for a no excuse gun or you don't.It's worth it to you or it is not.If you insist on haggling, you'll remain down on his list of prospects.
Quality collections are sometimes the result of being in the right place at the right time.Sometimes,it's a matter of just paying up to get the right stuff without quibbling.(Some guys are incapable of doing t that. They must chisel, even if it's already a fair or good deal)The guys that don't quibble are the ones that sellers keep in mind when they want to sell another treasure, not the guy that's going to be a pain in the derriere.

Don't pay attention to a lot of others on the internet are saying how much you should spend. A month or two after you buy it you will be happy with the purchase.
I don't know about you, but if I save $100 on a revolver purchase this month next month it will be spent on something else.

My advice, if you want it, can afford it, then buy it.

What's with you guys who think a snubby L frame is a punishing brute firing full power factory loads? My goodness! Go pull on your big boy undies ;) As for ejecting the spent .357 cartridges from a 2-1/2 inch 686, that's another big boy job that requires a forceful palm shove on the ejector rod with the muzzle pointed safely up. Works like a charm. I've been shooting a snubby 66 for 25 years without the issues brought up by naysayers in this thread. The 686 is heavier and softer on recoil than my 66.

If I've followed and read this thread correctly, the OP is only in line to possibly buy this gun at $900.00. If somebody ahead of him pays the price the gun is gone and the point is a moot one. If the owner comes to the OP and says the others have passed on the gun the OP will have to decide how badly he wants the gun. I'm not rich but I've spent $200.00 on dinner out or watched my wife drop that in a slot machine. $700.00 would apparently be a price most would like to pay, but it might take the price of a nice dinner or a night out gambling to get the gun you desire, your choice.

Too much is too much, no matter a person justifies it. All paying too much accomplishes is to make sure the NEXT gun you buy will cost you even more.

Just the view from here ...
