I stopped in to my favorite shop after lunch today. They had a Colt DS on consignment, a little rough finish-wise, with Eagle grips but priced a bit high for the condition-$595. Wanted to see if the seller dropped down, nope. Then I spotted a couple of Smiths: at first I thought one was 4" 19, turned out to be a high polish 66-2 (not my taste but it was well done), aftermarket grips-$800=pass for me. Then I looked over at a 4" 28, red ramp front sight (oh joy, perhaps a NYSP?? Nope), again after market grips, $745. I didn't ask to look further at either one (they're all consignment pieces).

Then the floor show began; a very angry woman at the counter, thick stack of documents though I don't know what kind, had evidently been denied on a background check at another shop, came in and was demanding they run her again. The store declined telling her she had to deal with the state on the matter as they had no other info other than the denial. She was not a happy camper. She stormed out to her brand new car, got on her cell and proceeded to yell and scream at someone on the other end. Whenever the door to the store opened you could hear her. We all watched closely just to make sure she didn't decide to drive through the store (hey, stranger things have happened). She left, I bought an inside the pocket holster for my new 442 (last month's purchase) and merrily went on my way.

One more stop on the way home to another little shop that tends to get interesting items but his prices are higher than most other places. First noticed a clean looking 18 with Mustang grips for $595, not really interested, picked up a couple new cleaning brushes and a package of Shoot N C targets. As I was about to pay I noticed a little lever gun in one of the racks. Turned out to be a Winchester 30/30, post '64 (probably mid/late 70s), pretty good shape-some light scratches here and there but a really great looking bore. The highlights however were the home brewed checkering on the fore end and perhaps a gold dollar coin (couldn't tell if it was real) imbedded in the left side of the stock. The real topper was the thick lacquer applied over the coin-similar to the covering one might encounter at one of your "finer" drinking establishments....or not. lol The price was tempting at $395, I'd be happier with it at $350 but the owner wasn't in and the guy behind the counter isn't authorized to "wheel and deal". I'll see if it's there next pay day, if not no big loss to me.

All of this was my way of procrastinating my first lawn mowing of the season. Alas I returned home with a gas can full for the mower, took care of the lawn and turned the sprinklers on for the season. At least tomorrow is all mine with nothing to do, well except for taking the dog for a nice long walk......

You sound like me, yard mowing and dog walking included!

I went to the Reliant show today and passed on a $450 Trooper Mk3 some guy was carrying around, The chipped grips I could handle, but the initials carved under the crane, I couldn't, for the price. Offered him $400 and he passed only to sell it about 10 minutes later for probably what he was asking.
Another older than me guy had a Police Positive Special that he wanted $400.
I passed on that as well, but I should buy a few more Colt revolvers as they are getting 'spensive. :)

Same Saturday I've had for months. Allergy shots, at least this time without adverse reaction, back to bed watching terrible movies, prepare for Sunday morning. Added downer of no babywrench to ride shotgun on the busy-ness of Saturday.

Loaded a hundred or so .308's this morning and then had an absolutely wonderful 3 hour nap this afternoon.

Don't know about you folks but Saturdays seem to be coming closer together than they used to.

For me, Saturdays are about like the other days of the week. I did take my dog to the vet this morning for his annual shots and learned from the doctor that we've had five skunks test positive for rabies last month. Two of the diseased critters were found in town on the elementary school playground.

Cleaned the 9c, .357 magnum and 500 magnum. Planted lots of lead with a bunch of retired co-workers yesterday.

Then did the lawns and took a nap with my Siamese cat in my lap. I considered today a pretty good day.

I woke up, caught up on my internet vids that I'd missed this week(Spoony and TGWTG), ate lunch, loaded up the saws and splitters, pulled some wood out to where I could work at it.

Got rained out, took a shower, ate dinner(grilled chicken, which everyone here in Amish land calls Bar-B-Que, but eh, it was good), then started checking the forum.

Posted an update to the thread I'd started recently, then came and read through this one and posted this.

Walked the Mighty Moose, my 15-pound rat terrier, repeatedly. Ran an errand to pick up a cheapo charcoal grill and charcoal for same. Cooked a chuck roast in chili broth--will add pinto beans tomorrow and cook it a few more hours. Watched the Kentucky Derby on the tube. Watered a couple of newly-planted roses.

That's it so far, except for exchanging insane e-mails with my brother.

Should have been doing all kinds of other stuff. Said to hell with it.

I'm pretty damn useless in my old age.

Trip to the range, 100x9mm in the morning, long overdue nap in the afternoon.

Dinner out with Mrs. Llando88, then a browse through Barnes & Noble.

Church tomorrow.

Early men's bible study breakfast at church, did four on-site property inspections and wrote up two reports. Took my favorite Bride out for dinner. Only that last part earned me any points......

Allergies [emoji20]. Had a suprise 80th birthday party for my Dad, which had an amazing turn out. He got to see friends he hasn't been able to see since the 70s. A good steak dinner, a walk with the wife and son and now some NBA playoff basketball.

Today was one of my best Saturdays in a while. Went to a motorcycle tech day. It was a chilly ride in the morning, but it was my first chance to get out on the bike after a solid week of rain. Felt good.

This is an event I started about a dozen years ago in my shade tree venue, but after a few years moved it to a friend's house with a nice big garage and concrete apron. Originally it was for KLR650 owners, to offer the use of special tools and to coach them through the process of swapping out their balancer chain idler adjuster quadrants to correct a weak point in the design. We would also help them through things like valve adjustments, tire mounting, chain and sprocket replacement, stuff that newer riders and inexperienced mechanics can have trouble with if left to their own devices.

It is also a chance to smoke a cigar, maybe drink a beer, meet some like-minded riders, and swap lies with some guys I may not have seen too much of in the past year. I heard about routes and past and future rides to Alaska, Mexico, South America, Utah, the Rockies, the Ozarks, Upper Michigan, northern Wisconsin, northern Minnesota, Dakotas, Canada, New England and North Carolina.

After a few hours, the party broke up as guys went home to do their honey-do lists. A few of us were ready for lunch, so I suggested a Thai place in Saint Paul. Another guy asked "is it as good as Taste of Thailand?"

"I know Taste of Thailand, and it's pretty good, but this place blows it away."

"No way. I was in Thailand in the Air Force, and there is nothing better in town."

"Try this. You'll see. It has pork necks. It has haw-mok. It has dishes I have never heard of, that taste like nothing you ever had."

I ordered sour sausages and, after consultation with the waitress, a dish I had never noticed before, roast pork with five spices over Thai broccoli, with a boiled egg and soup, a clear broth with vegetables and hot spice. Greg ordered fried rice.

"Fried rice??!! You can get fried rice in every chow mein joint in every strip mall in town."

In the end, Greg admitted that the fried rice was better than Taste of Thailand, and the sour sausages, with slices of fresh ginger and cabbage, tasted like nothing he ever had before. Craig went with the pork and sour sausage too, just relieved it had no shrimp in it (he's allergic). Kurt had a beef soup similar to pho, and pronounced it on a par with what his Cambodian wife serves him.

Back home, the dogs were glad to see me. I had another Rocky Patel and spent an hour in the back yard talking to my neighbor over the fence, while our dogs thankfully stayed in their own yards. I have a couple of toy Aussies in heat, and his labs ought to know by now how easily they could clear the fence after watching little Gracie do it.

Range time: Anschutz 54 match and S&W 52-2.
Loaded some more .38 WC's.
Pork chops on the indoor elec. grill, not bad with enough dry rub. Stopped at 145f - very tender.

Mow grass tomorrow - can't put it off any longer.

Got up and had coffee & breakfast with my fiancé. She went for groceries and I went to Wal-Mart for a few things. I normally buy one or two boxes of ammo per week, but today, my ammo money went to buy my best girl some new summer tops. We're getting ready for a weeks vacation to Arizona in July, and I want her to have some new clothes for the trip. She supports my shooting/reloading, so I want to do some nice things for her :-)

About 2;00pm, I loaded my range bag, ammo box and my Bushmaster Carbine and went to the Conservation Club, where I'm a member. Small handgun and rifle/shotgun range, but you have to be a member to get a key to go. So I had the handgun range to myself and fired a box of reloads through my Ruger SR1911. Man that is one SWEET and ACCURATE 45! Took the Bushy to the rifle range (now empty) and checked my scope and iron sight settings. 15 rounds and I was done. I don't shoot hundreds of rounds each trip, I enjoy my time alone and when I get a good target/group, I'm good till my next trip!

I always find fired brass, sometimes at both ranges. Today was 100+ pistol/revolver cases and a handful of 223's. A few days ago, 400+ combined cases. My biggest score was 576 pcs. of brass on one afternoon. I was so happy, I didn't even bother to shoot, just went home with my "booty" of the day!

Came home, had a wonderful dinner, sorted my brass and now looking through the forum. Life is good...

Woke up w/o an alarm. Checked the guns for sale or trade and lounge forums. Spent an hour sorting out ammo and spent casings, deciding which guns to take to the range. Better be there when they open at 10am, it gets busy fast.

Along with my usual shooting pals we had a neighbor with his very first gun - a Ruger LCP. Lucky for him that his next door neighbor is also a certified NRA instructor. It was a good way for him to start.

(that is a snub 500 Harry is holding)

Afterwards a stop at a Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins where it was quiet enough for us to get some small talk in.

In way of a r/r...I had one of my best days today. Tight groups and built up some confidence with my two model 625s using auto rims. I was surprised how good the 'clown grip' on the JM PC felt. :)

On the way home made a quick stop at lgs.:(

Posted a thread about moon clips and did some one line window shopping.

BTW I noticed how high the grass is and glanced over at a neighbors house...he cuts my grass. Good neighbors are priceless. :D:D:D
