I'm fairly new to the S&W world. I have been a fan of Big Bore Single Action revolvers fro a little while now, and have decided to branch out into Smith & Wesson's.
A few of my Single Action toys/tools:
A pair of David Clements Custom Ruger Bisley Blackhawks, one in .475 & one in .500:
An Alan Harton two tone Ruger Bisley in .45 Colt:
A Jack Huntington New Model Flattop 44 Magnum:
I decided I wanted my first S&W's to be in one of my favorite calibers - the .44 Special.
swapped into this 624 at a gun show:
Picked up this Model 28-2 so cheap that a rebore and rechamber to .44 SPL would have had me into it cheaper than tracking down a Model 24:
Then I found what I really wanted and didn't know - a 696-1.
Picked up a TI 396 cylinder for it.
I decided this was the .44 SPL S&W platform for me.
I sold off my 624 & my 28-2. 696's are not cheap and don't have a lot of variation, so I decided to make my own (still in the planning stages) a 686-1M with a mountain gun barrel and the original cylinder from my 696, and a 681-2 with another TI cylinder and the alloy shroud off a 396. I figure to have a Mountain Gun and a fixed sight snubby in one of my favorite calibers before it's all said & done.
