I am looking for high speed internet to stream tv. Does anyone have hughesnet and how do you like it?

It’s been discussed here a time or two. The general consensus was that it stinks bad.

If you’re in a rural area where there are no internet providers, check Starlink.

Original idea was for use by people in remote areas with no other internet access. I lived in such an area for awhile, but did not have Hughesnet. Others who did complained about high cost and undependable service. But that was nearly 20 years ago. May not be that way now.

If you have an iPhone and service, you might be better off using it as an internet hotspot.

I had it for a while. It was better than dial up, but not much. It had no service in bad weather. Then AT&T came down our road. It was great at first but then they put too many people on it and jacked the price up, constantly screwed up the billing, and sent what little customer service they had to somewhere that didn't understand English and didn't care. I think their CS people moonlighted as scammers at night. Finally our local power co-operative put it something that actually works for a decent price. I've been on this one for two years. I don't know what their CS is like because I haven't had to call them. I dumped everything AT&T, including phones. I'll never go near them again.

I’ve had AT&T internet and TV service (U-Verse) for around 15 years. I cannot complain about anything except the cost. But even so, it is not that much more than other services. And I can afford the difference. The dividends from my AT&T stock more than covers it.

If you have T Mobile in your area the internet works great.
I'll second this. But you do need to be in area that T-Mobile has expanded their 5G internet coverage to. (You can check here: T-Mobile Internet | Reliable 5G Home Internet Service)

There's no installation fuss other than setting up a standalone terminal and plugging it into an electric outlet.

Hughesnet uses geostationary spacecraft which means low speed. If you want to stream video, this is not a good service for you. If you are very remote and do not have typical terrestrial options, Starlink, as noted above — and which uses low earth orbit spacecraft — would be a good option.

We had it for several years until the electric coop brought fiber optic to our area. Prior to that we had Century Link via phone lines. Hughes Net was much better than the phone line and only rarely had storm outages. Star Link was not yet an option while we used it. It is better than nothing but it is slow.

Had it at a rural place for 2-3 years. Wasn't great. Switched to Starlink when it became an option. Starlink was way better. 1 gig fiber came through this summer so I dropped Starlink. Now working to drop DISH and go to Youtube TV.

No Like

We have Hughesnet. We are also out in
the middle of nowhere. Our plan is the Basic.
I basically pay $95/month, for 40 gigabytes of
high speed access this is not an unlimited plan.

With the Basic Plan you run out of gigabytes
within days and that’s being conservative
by turning off the TV when not using it.
It appears that when you run out of GB all
still continues but it’s not high speed.
The Unlimited Plan if I recall was expensive.

I used Customer Service once for a simple
question and it was not good. I got tossed
around to 4 different rude representatives
they were not english accents.

I would not recommend.

I had the basic HughesNet service for a number of years. High cost, slow and subject to bad weather outages. I changed to Gigabeam (local service) fiber optic this summer. It was a BIG improvement!

As noted above, HughesNet was better than dial-up, but not by much.

Ah, dial-up. Wait for 15 minutes to get connected and about that long to download anything. And that catchy scratchy tune that played when you were trying to connect. I still somewhere have an old Radio Shack (remember them?) combination telephone and modem. I doubt if anyone under 35 has any idea what we had to go through back then.

I have Starlink in my remote Tennessee location. It works fine for streaming TV. It does need an open location for the best connection.

I read Amazon is coming out with a starlink type system for $100 a month

Here's my Starlink from their phone app. You can see my Roku TV and Google cameras are connected to the internet
