I have had a small banner telling me that I have not posted in a while. As a newer gun owner, it's because I feel like a freshman in a Doctoral class, thanks for all the info, it's been very helpful.

Now to my dumb question. It's the time of year where I spend a considerable amount of time outside in the yard or garage/patio area. I have moved my gun to the garage area so it's closer if needed, as I don't carry as of yet. I have it in a micro-fiber bag, not a holster, in a safe but accessible place. I don't always return it in to the house, and was wondering if the warm/humid invironment will hurt it?

Oh, it's a 642 airweight BTW.

I have a 642 that's been in my truck almost 3 years and it's doing just fine. And trust me, even in the garage it's hot and humid down here. I also carry one front pocket which means sweat in addition to heat and humidity. No problems there either.

Great little revolver IMHO.

It's a tough little piece. Just don't clean it with anything that will take the protective coating off the frame- stay away from harsh cleaners such as Gun Scrubber, brake cleaners or similar aerosol cleaners. Oil and regular bore solvent will work nicely, as would carnuba wax on the stainless parts to protect them from humidity.

Stainless steel isn't rust proof, but it is very rust resistant.

If you carry it every day....it should last in the neighborhood of...100+ years. :)

sandpiper:

I have a Kimber Aegis II that I carry regularly in an IWB holster. I use Renaissance wax to protect the blued surface and have had no problems with the NC humidity.

I hope that helps,

Frank

I carry several different guns during the year (adjusting for a seasonal dress code) and haven' had any problems . I always treat them to a cleaning and lube at least at the beginning and end of a "tour".

My 637 lost it's (so called) protective coating yrs. ago. Just what was it supposed to protect the frame from anyway?
