Here in the Midwest, my feeders have suddenly become vacant. Looks like they are on their long flight to Mexico/S America for the winter. Is this somewhat earlier than usual?
We have not seen any here in NW Ohio recently...maybe they are leaving earlier than usual for their long trip South OR maybe it has something to do with Helene aftermath...
I'm glad some of you are still seeing the little marvels. I've seen just one hummer in our yard on two occasions this year, vs many over months in past years, and I'm worried about their wellbeing.
Ours are almost non-existent. We usually had about 6 or 7 flying around every day and now we may see one flying around once a week or so. We filled the feeder once this year and there may be 2 inches gone from it...
Our hummers (White Mts. of NH) left a week or two ago. We keep our feeders up for a while for any that may have started from further north and have yet to come through.
We have no feeders but my wife has hanging and potted flowers everywhere. They are still here in WNY. Watched them this weekend. Two weeks ago one came in the house when I opened sliding door. Fortunately he found his way out just as quick
I'm in northern Iowa and still have hummers but they are having to compete with bees for the sugar water. But the orioles, robins, and most everything else left the area several weeks ago.
Here in upstate SC they're still plentiful, but most will start moving out shortly. We have started to have a few that hang around a looonnggg time into fall, though.
Used to have two different species of hummers around the flowers in front of my apartment. Tried a feeder last year, but some jerk stole it. I miss them.
