Just checked out Pearl Harbor and could see the Utah,

Never thought about it,cool stuff now the mind is going
"where next?"

"Thanks Dude!" I always wanted to say that W/O sounding
like a middle aged white guy trying to sound cool.

Glad you guys liked this one. Fortress hunting is fun too. For example, Fort Monroe, Virginia, looks great from the air.

The Dry Tortugas is realy neat from sat.

Better from under water or at the end of a line.

I always use G Earth for real estate listings but never for fun.

I gotta loosen up and enjoy looking up some old memories.

Again thanks.........Dude.

Never hunted battleships, but I've hunted submarines a few times on Google Earth. No...I'm not joking...you just need to know where to look.

I went hunting for and found the USS America, about a week before she was towed out to sea and sank.

I like the views of Pearl Harbor.

I never thought of doing that but I am going to have to give it a try.

Some cool forts to check out.

I like looking for forts and castles on google's satellite view, too. Some of the better forts are Ft. Monroe, Ft. McHenry, Castillo De San Marcos. Anything with well defined walls shows up really well.

Here is an article on the forts that I've checked out so far--

Great American Fortresses and Castles to See with Google Maps Satellite Imagery - Associated Content

I generally shy away from checking out active military bases, but you can find Area-51 and some of the old Nike Missile Sites around DC pretty easily using the Satellite view. Theme parks and sports venues also look neat from the air.

Anybody got any additional suggestions?

Check out

The aircraft graveyard out side of Tucson...by itself it is the 3rd largest standing Air Force in the world.

Volcanoes and Boneyards

Very Cool ideas. Thanks! To see a volcano, you can search for Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii on google maps. You can see the crater and the rock wall the surrounds it. I don't know crap about volcanoes, but it looks kind of cool.

If you search on aircraft boneyard arizona, you can zoom in on the aircraft boneyard at Davis Monthan AFB. It's kind of fun to try and guess what kinds of planes you are looking at.

I actually use it for deer hunting. I'll google a new area I'm going to hunt and can actualy make out deer trails in some of them. It's good to know landmarks and points of reference as well as proximity to houses and roads that might not be able to be seen through trees and brush.

Once aware of terrain, watering holes, potential feeding areas and spots to keep away from for a safe shot, I'll go to the area and get to know it as much as possible. The images aren't updated in real time so it's not like I can get on google maps, see a herd of deer or a massive buck and then drive to that spot and shoot the animal in the image.

In some cases, the images are rather dated and water holes no longer exist, crops have been rotated and entire tree rows torn down since the image was posted. All in all though its a good resource to get a head start on becoming familiar with a new hunting area.

Last year I looked at an image of a farmers property that had been submitted by the landowner to game and fish to have hunters come thin the deer out on his land. He had over a dozen well defined trails leading to his backyard garden. I set my blind up where several trails converged, spent two weeks sitting in the blind getting to know their patterns and then had a doe take the trail closest to the blind, 10 yards, arrow disected the heart. We then proceeded to take three more doe off his farm. I set up there again this year but have been google mapping other areas of interest.
