Hypothetical Model 53 Question

So you have a plain jane 6" model 53, but you have the .22lr cylinder to go with it. You are thinking of selling the gun (for whatever reason). Do you sell the gun as a package or do you sell the .22lr cylinder separately realizing that they go for $800-1000 by themselves?

Shame to sell the cyl. They are fitted and numbered to the gun. Generally, I see nice boxed M53's with aux. cyl. with asking prices around $1,800. Big Larry

If the gun shows wear but cylinder looks
Like new I would sell cylinder first.
If both like new I would keep them together.
53’s that have been carried in holster
and show wear are not expensive ,bring
No more than a 19 in same shape.
The cylinders are in demand.

Extra cyl

In my collection I have 2 mod 53 with the LR cyl! One is numbered to the gun and the other has no number stamped on the end.
IMHO!!!! To the op, if your gun has the LR cyl numbered to your gun, keep it together! However, if you gun is worn out from barrel erosion, miss use, or just a lot of miles I would sell the extra cyl ! The auction I remember when the LR cyl went for an unusually(crazy) high price, the LR cyl was numbered on the back! This means the cyl was fitted to another gun OR the buyer had THE gun with that number!

Agree with jcelect, if your M53 22LR cylinder is numbered to your gun keep them together. . . .at least until you confirm you can't get the price you want. If not, and you're going to sell the M53 anyway, then whatever brings you the most cash. Right now I think finding any M53 in 6 or 8 3/8 for less than $1000 is unlikely; $1200+ more likely. A 4 inch will probably be more. The last two 22LR cylinders sales for Jets were $1k+ and $860. I'd probably put both on a friendly site first, the Classifieds here for example, and offer them together. Good luck.
