I am considering the SD9VE as my first gun purchase

You mind me asking which ammo you're firing? I've fired some Winchester but can't find any. Thinking of buying either federal bulk or that tulammo

Winchester WB (115 gr), Monarch (Brass 115 gr), PPU (115 gr), Remington UMC (124 gr) & Hornady XPT (147 gr)... I have also put 16 rounds of re-loads my uncle had.

Everything went bang!

I live north of Nashville, TN and went to 6 different location looking for ammo the day after Christmas with zero luck. I ended up traveling across the state line into KY (better known as God's Country ;) ) and bought the last 8 boxes of the PPU Brass 115 gr.

I'm saving 50 rounds for my upcoming CCW class in a couple of weeks. I hope this helps!

That's one of the great things about the SD line... the price point is the same for the 9mm or the 40 cal.

I would imagine that waiting periods do suck. When I made the decision to purchase this weapon I walked in to my local Academy Sports and walked out with the last SD9VE they had in the building. The entire process took about 45 minutes.

I did however have to wait to fire the weapon. I had it for about a week prior to putting just over 200 rounds through it during my first visit to the range.

I have since put a total of 425 rounds (or about that amount) of flawless rounds through it and plan on putting at least another 100 rounds through it tomorrow.

So far, this has been an excellent buy weapon for the money. Let us know what you think once you have an opportunity to out some rounds through it.

The waiting period here only applies if you do not have a cpl which I have not yet recieved

Da' Burg

Hey man. I have been lurking this site for awhile and randomly saw this post. I just bought the SV9VE and also live in the burg. I bought mine off of 221, the Ace Hardware. I picked it up for $350

I love it man. Totally worth the money. I finally settled on the 9mm after going from a 22 mag, 38, and then 40

I almost bought the Glock GS19 but then picked up and shot the SD9VE. The trigger pull is a bit tougher, but it's not insane. I actually appreciate it, consider it is and will be my self defense CCW gun. Anyways, just my two cents!

I just got home after being in Pidgin Forge, TN doing the Xmas thing with family and saw your post. So how do you like your new gun? How easily and comfy does it conceal? I am torn between the SD9VE or the smaller guns like the shield, nano, lc9, etc. I here the prices at the Ace Hardware are high, is this the case?

i love it. LOVE it. granted, its my first hand gun. But I shot a ton. I shot the 40, the 40c, the glocks, etc and on and on before I made the decision. Ultimately I could not really tell the difference. I bought it to CCW and for HD. I don't have my conceal permit yet, it's in the works. Which by the way, I should note, its WAY too easy to get a conceal in VA. haha. I signed up on line, and after reading the part that said, "Watch a 10 minute video, and then take the test. And if you fail the test you can just take it over as many times as you want to" I just took the test and got a 100%. granted, its mostly common sense anyways right? Maybe I say it's too easy because I have shot and been around fire arms my whole life, and was taught as a young kid the inherent dangers? I dont know... i digress...

back to the topic, I personally did not like the feel, and way the smaller conceal pistols handle. I liked that both the GS19, 23 and SD9 and 40 were in my opinion perfectly weighted. and for the price, they cannot be beat!

I looked around at prices everywhere, and what I paid at Ace is what I would of paid anywhere in Va. I could have gotten a better price out of town, and had the gun shipped in town. But those guys at Ace are good guys. And as a business owner myself, I liked paying local. The ammo however, at both Ace and Lynchburg Arms are overpriced by 2-3 dollars a box. Some of it, more. But it's sparse right now so I will pay for it. And I like to shoot at the range here in town. So again, I will pay local prices. Anyways, sorry for rambling. Hope that helps man!! There are a lot of options here in the good ole burg!

What is around here in Libertyville for looking at and buying a new handgun locally? I live near to Lynchburg Pawn but have not been in there. I am unsure where Lynchburg Arms and the Ace Hardware are. I have lived in Libertyville for 7 months. Maybe we can meet and talk guns, etc.

Love my SD 9 VE. Feels great in the waist and hand. My IWB is on its way in. Couldn't be happier for my first purchase.

I'm near Lynchburg Pawn as well, right off of Sandusky Rd. small world! Ha. They are overpriced and sell mostly used. I wouldn't buy there. I think L Oppleman is the same. Lynchburg Arms is really nice. Has an indoor range, decently priced, flat screen TVs etc. the staff is also really nice and helpful. Ace Is nothing pretty to look at but they are wall to wall guns. And also really helpful. You will find better prices, up to 25-30 dollars better online, but I like to buy local.

I'd be up to shoot, let you shoot, chat or whatever!

As much as I love my S&W revolvers, their semi-auto's leave me, well, not so much. That said, a Glock 19 is highly recommended if you're going to spend $500.00.

I purchased my SD9VE On 12/28, I shopped around for a while before choose this gun.I was torn between the Ruger P-Series but the S&W was my first choice. I like the feel of the gun in my hand, it conceals well, though I am having a hard time finding a holster for it.

It shoots very well, I am able to keep a tight group and don't feel like the trigger pull is a problem as I have read form other shooters. So far for what I have purchased this weapon for it will do the job.

Check out Foxx Holsters... All Kydex conceal holsters that are molded specifically for the SD VE series. I ordered mine on Monday the 31st and can't wait to try to out. Solid reviews and you can youtube the Foxx "Trapp" Kydex holster.

Here is the website as well Home

And no, I'm not a employee or someone who get paid to send them traffic. I just think for the money, it's an excellent option.

Thanks for the pics. That is freaking cool. I wonder how an overweight 240lb guy can conceal that gun? LOL

LOL, much better than me. I'm 5'8" 151 lbs. I have two great friends who conceal carry in your "size " and you'd never know. One carries a snub revolver, the other a full size H&K.

I am 5 feet 10 inches and 240lbs. I gotta lose weight to feel better and prevent health issues later in life. I have an on site gym in my apartment complex so I have no good excuse.

When I get my holster I'll post a few more pics for you. So far, carrying around the home until my LTCF comes in its only been carried without one to get used to the weight. I carry with an empty chamber and a full mag. I usually forget its there within 10 minutes. Its very light and if you find a comfortable position it seems to disappear completely.

Agreed here. Here is a pic of my holster. Does well under jackets, shirts etc.

Interesting. I really want to see the sd9/40 VE now. It just may be the right gun for me overall. Thanks for all the pics.

Like I said brother you can see min anytime! They have them at both lynchburg arms, and ace! :)

I did a fast search from my street to yours and the iPad app Maps says we are about 2.5 miles from each other. Do you use any form of IM or chat on your puter? I would call you but daughter is in bed, wifey is reading a book, and I am on the sofa next to her.

My OWB holster until I pick up my LTCF. My IWB holster is in shipping. Ran 25 rounds of Winchester white box 115gr through it because it's all I had on hand performed flawlessly. Not that thats much of a test.
