Most of you know me as a traditionalist. I like guns with class; guns that reflect workmanship and style. Guns that are products of their time in history, and which have fulfilled their reasons for being.

Imagine my dismay upon encountering this travesty. It truly turned my stomach. Apparently designed to kill zombies; did anyone tell Mossberg that zombies do NOT exist, and anything designed to combat them is really stupid?

This is neither fish nor fowl - well, maybe it's foul. It's ugly. It would offend anyone with an ounce of a sense of esthetics. It's not a Winchester 94. It's not an M4. It's....Frankengun.

Excuse me while I sign off and try to control my gag reflex. What in the name of all that's holy was Mossberg thinking? I hear John Moses Browning turning in his grave. John Wayne is looking down from heaven and shaking his fist, yelling "I won't be insulted!" I mean, good grief.

Got to agree with you there. That "thing" is beyond ugly.
 
A couple of weeks ago at the local Pawn and Gun a guy brought one in for pawn. It caught my eye only when it was right under my nose. It turns out they have one hanging on the wall and I didn't see that one either.

I guess my eyes know better than to focus on one. ;)
 
This is a joke, right? If it's true, it just goes to show that some manufacturers will do anything for a buck. I guess Marlin's bottom line wasn't as good as they wanted it to be, so, as a result, they appear to be grasping at straws. The only thing they need to do now that will be equally as stupid is to offer it in camo, too.
 
Paladin, you don't even have to be a traditionalist (I'm one too) to be nauseated by that malformed, misconceived and shamefully manipulative heap of excrement. But being a traditionalist certainly adds to the heaves.

It has to have been designed to appeal to the more affluent devotees of the Bud K catalog, or jerks who just like to make right-thinking people barf at the range.

Mule Packer, I don't think that atrocity is built on a Marlin. Their quality may have slipped since the buyout, but I'd hate to think one of theirs was the basis.
 
I don't like it either, but if you could time travel back into the 1930's or 1940's and show a few people a Glock or an AR, think you would get pretty much the same reaction as here.
 
I handled one last fall.
The adjustable stock felt OK.
The weight was good. The sights were typical open iron sights.

The forend felt like a cheese grater in the palm.
Quite an aggressive one at that.
I might be tempted if it had a "regular" synthetic forend.

One thing about adjustable stocks is they let people of differing sizes
find the right stock length for them without resorting to a saw.
My wife is short and most of my .22s, and other rifles, are too long
for her to shoot comfortably. She was able to use a loaner M4.22
type rifle at an Appleseed shoot with no problems from the stock.

I will probably just stick to my traditional Marlins.
 
Marlin was probably looking ahead to when the assault weapons bill passed.

Even today, that may be the only thing someone in CT or MA may be able to buy to defend themselves.

Maybe somebody at Mossberg heard a lever gun referred to as an "Appalachian Assault Rifle" and said, "Hey, there's a million-dollar idea...."
 
I almost expressed my desire to ban these. But, banning ugly guns won't work; people with no taste will find some way to get them.
 
I have a Mossberg Model 464, but it aint one of those ugly things. Its got wood looks normal and is a decent weapon.

Its the future of deer hunting....An 6-20x56 Night Force scope, pop up battle sights, 500 lumen combat light (LED), and a laser would make for an excellent weapon for these battle hardened whitetails we have running around PA....

Don't get me started on my idea of a good duck gun.....

I agree this is as "ugly as sin."

However, I would buy one for a truck gun.
I like the adjustable stock, and I wouldn't feel bad about it getting dirty or scratched.

Wood stocks and fine blue barrels should not be subjected to banging around in the back seat or the floor of a truck as we bounce around 4x4 trails in the mountains.

Now, if they would make it in .44mag or .357mag it would be very useful to me.
