Happiness is a pair of new hearing aids...especially when they are loaded with all the new bells and whistles. If I was 5 years younger I'd be doin' hand springs and back flips right now. I may not be able to get the correction I want in my vision but I'm now at a place in my hearing that I haven't been for 20 years.

First of all they are the clearest sound with less back ground noise I've ever had. And that right there would be enough to make me happy but they also have a blue tooth connection to my phone and a little gizmo I plugged into the tv so that the sound goes right to the hearing aids. I have a "compilot" I wear around my neck and the little box that connects me to the tv is also a charger for this.

If I'm wearing the compilot (it goes around my neck and be worn inside the shirt) and I get a call I just tap the big square button and push it again to hang up. I don't have to hold anything in my hand and the phone can be 30' away. How cool is that! If I'm watching tv and a call come in it will cut out the tv until I hang up.

But wait.........That ain't all!

It will take 6 to 8 weeks for it to come in but thanks to a new program from the state I am going to get a new android tablet. A new benefit for the hearing impaired on Workmens Comp.

I'm beginning to think that maybe some a this infernal technology might not be all that bad after all. ;)

....But I still refuse to text! :p :D

These ain't.....

These ain't your grandfather's, or even your father's hearing aids. They are a tiny sound studio that can be programmed to do the best you can get.

We got one for our son about 10 years ago. It was state of the art back then and I don't know what improvements they've made since then.

Jack, who makes your new toys?

Ralph, they are made by Phonak. My first pair was made by Siemens and they were clunky, junky, uncomfortable pains in my ears. This is my 4th or 5th pair of Phonaks and they are ALWAYS the best you can get at any given time. Before I'd use Siemens I'd just hold a coffee can to my ears.

Doesn't matter....

How old were you guys when you started wearing hearing aids? I'm 51 now and I'm questioning whether or not I should try some.

It doesn't matter what other people do. Age isn't a factor. My son was eight when he got his. If you feel like you could benefit from them, do give them a try.

I am 60 & I have been wearing hearing aids for over 20 yrs. Many makes & models; some very expensive, some less so. I recently purchased a pair of Signia Silk Primax. ($2000/pair);these are the best I have owned yet. There is no way I can function without hearing aids. (Too many years of shooting without ear protection )

Hearing aids CAN be very expensive. But I believe that there are some good quality ones that are not necessarily high priced. As I said above, I don't know what these new ones would go for but I was told that my last pair would be $7K retail. That would put them well out of my reach. What with all the blue tooth and compilot and tv adapter I wouldn't be surprised it these would be up as high as maybe $10K.

And if you were to buy them retail I don't expect you would get the free tablet. If I understand correctly The state of Texas is forcing the insurance company covering workers comp to give the free tablet along with the hearing aids. Not sure I understand everything I know about that deal or just why the hearing impaired would need a tablet but I'll take it and after I get used to it I'll probably enjoy it.

I only have trouble hearing distinct speech in a noisy, crowded room. Otherwise, I'm fine.
So Monday-Friday in middle school classrooms and Saturday behind a popular bar.
Other than those days, I don't think I need hearing aids.

If you get to making mistakes on people's drink orders that could lead to an unhappy situation. Here in Texas a thing like that could get you into real trouble. :D

This is precisely why you may need hearing aids. It isn't always an issue of volume alone. The technology available today can eliminate background noises which is what causes you to have trouble understanding what others are saying in a conversation. The technology exists to adjust your hearing aids to just what YOU need. Very custom tuned to your needs. And they can be adjusted to accomodate any changes that may occur in your hearing.

I have been getting them every 3 or 4 years for 20 years and every new pair is loaded with all sorts of new improvements in the quality of sound to features that are available. Mine even "Learn" about my exposure to back ground noise and automatically tune out the things around me on a frequent basis.

I think you'd be surprise at what is available now a days.

My wife got them about 5 years ago, I wished I never talked her into getting them, now when I say something under my breath, she hears me.:mad::mad:
