I bought a registered magnum

Definitely letter the gun, it may have gone to a cool place. Did you get the box also? You paid a good price that will definitely go up. Larry

Yes, the auction listing says the original box is included. To me this is significant especially on a gun that is older than I am.

There is a man in town that has a very nice registered magnum in nickel. It has a King sight as this one apparently does. He has a letter on it. He has stag grips, but said he had the originals and the asking price is $7200. I guess I am fairly lucky, many people will never see a registered magnum and I have held one and will soon own one.

Factory Nickel? That could be an interesting gun.

He has a letter on it and I believe the letter says it was shipped in nickel.

If anyone is interested in that gun, PM me and I will send you contact information. I will recommend him as a seller, I have dealt with him in the past. He has had it at the past two Asheville gun shows, so I don't know if he is firm or not on the price.

Beautiful revolver.

I've always wondered what the difference is between a 92% Registered Magnum and a 93% Registered Magnum. :)

The difference is how crooked the seller is. The simple fact is any rating system is worthless if 2 people looking at the gun don't come up with the same rating percentage. If the number can't be repeated, its not a good rating. Notice it says nothing about the gun, which appears very nice. Its just the rating doesn't reflect how nice.

The buyer seems to like the gun, so that's all that matters. I personally don't trust any seller who shaves his condition description that close.

The seller is pretty well known as a seller of high dollar guns. In addition to the pictures he posted on GB.com, he also posted high res pictures here https://plus.google.com/photos/107899053055981883378/albums/5880577712432677825

Regarding the conditions of the auction, the only thing is he does not take Mastercard. I wrote to him hours before the end of the auction and asked if I could stretch out the normal pay time as I only had that much money in my IRA He said if I wanted to bid he would accomodate my payment schedule. I only have a few feedbacks on GB.com but all are positive.

I usually don't hear of guns rated at 92%. In my mind it is 90%, 95%, and 98%. Most sellers are well advised to not high grade guns. With Michael Zeleny's reputation, I doubt the condition is exaggerated. I also have the high res pictures.

It'll probably be a week and a half till I get this as I haven't mailed a check yet. As soon as I get it I will post again regarding my satisfaction. I do plan to get a history letter.

I am getting antsy to get the gun in my hands. The difference in shipping between one day and three days is $40. I will have to think hard to see if I want to pay $40 to get it two days sooner.

I know Zeleny and he's a good guy. I can't imagine why he rated a gun the way he did. But I trust him based on his SIG background.

Beautiful! Every time I look for one I get frustrated with either the price or the fact that many are beat, refinished, or have issues. Bottom line is ....... you have one & I don't.

Well I will soon own one (as I said maybe in 2 weeks). What I have seen is below $4000 you get refinished guns or guns with replaced barrels. Boise Gun company has a nice looking one that the factory letter says was rebarreled and reblued and they want to start bidding at $4200. Jackson armory has been auctioning one with a poor reblue and some of the original markings wiped out. They are marketing it as a restoration project and asking for a bid of $1795. I don't believe anyone has bid on it through several auction cycles. There is also an (apparently) original registered magnum asking for a bid of $7900 with non matching grips.

If you are in the market, PM me and I will give you the contact information where you can get a nickel registered magnum. His asking is $7200. I have dealt with him a couple times in the past and find him to be straight up.

The Jackson Armory gun has been on Gun Broker for about a year now. That poor thing is a basket case.
I looked at the Boise gun a few times, but it's got too many issues for the money.
That $7,900.00 gun ( seller 3157 MIKE) has also been on GB for a LONG time. I guess sooner or later day it'll worth that much.

I think you did well with the RM you got. I was surprised at how low he had the reserve set. I really thought it would be closer to his BIN price of $5,250.00 so I didn't bother following the auction until the end.

That will teach me to think!!

I am glad I didn't buy it out from under a S&W forum member (at least I hope I didn't). I considered asking advice before I bid on it. I actually bid $5200 and got it quite a bit below that. This is the most expensive gun I have bought to date. With only about 7500 made, I felt it unlikely I would ever find one that the seller didn't know what he had. As you said, the most likely case is they will continue to increase in value. I saw an auction today for an unfired one that was engraved by Alvin White. If I remember correctly they were looking for a bid of $16,500. Some Pythons are approaching what I paid for this. I hope I did OK, I think I did especially with the original box.

Well, I picked it up at the Pawn Shop today and I am pleased. I wish it had the registration certificate, but sadly, no. It does have a pretty nice box. Of course the action is buttery smooth.

I bought a NIB Colt OMM in .22LR dated 1968 while waiting and now Zeleny has a C96 Mauser Military (Broomhandle) complete with stock and over 90% original finish.

I took it to the range and shot 50 rounds of .38 special +P. I didn't have any .357 right now. I also have a Model 37 no dash airweight. Last time I shot it it was unpleasant. Since then I put rubber grips on it and a spring kit. It is easier to shoot double action and the SA trigger pull is great. It is accurate enough for defense, but nowhere near the RM. I was shooting 158 grain semi wadcutters in the model 37. I didn't fire all 50 rounds, the gun just is not fun to shoot.

I'll probably shoot the RM again with .357 magnums, but it won't be a regular range gun for me.
