Santa's bringing me a new 617 4" this year.:D He ordered it last week and it arrives tomorrow. I'll give it a quick once over and then it gets put away until Christmas. At least that's the plan. Of course plans sometimes change.

Sweet! Keep us posted on how you like it when you take it out for a test drive. I'd love a nice .22 revolver but the price tag frightens me away. Mind if I ask what you paid for it?

I got it from Bud's. It was $679 + insurance + CC fee + x-fer. I got about $728 in it total. Yeah that's pretty salty, isn't it? But I got an unexpected bonus from work. So I figured I should spend it fast before the wife did.

Picked her up today. The barrel appears to be on straight. The trigger is heavy and the SA has some creep in it. I think I'll replace the return spring. The gun doesn't look as new as I'd like (it is supposedly NIB). It had a turn line when I got it and it has some minor scratches to the muzzle; nothing that I expect to affect accuracy though. The fit looks good, but the finish is less than perfect (not just the muzzle); I think you can tell from the photo. Overall, the issues are pretty minor. With a little work and if she shoots well, I'll be happy.

Before my son shipped off to Afghanistan (he arrived there yesteday), I went to visit him at his home base and he and I went to the gun store at the PX. They had a Taurus model 94 stainless .22 revolver for just over $400. I played around with it a bit but it was much smaller than I expected and the trigger pull must have been close to 12 lbs. I am old-school revolver guy (1970's cop) and I knew that rimfire revolvers need a strong hammer spring but this trigger pull was unbelievably hard. That, and the smaller size put me off against buying that model.

your 617 is closer to full-size, right?

First thanks and best wishes to your son. Secondly, I have never handled the Taurus so I can't say by comparison. But the 617 is a K frame, so yes it is full sized IMO. It fills your hand well. It is about a perfect size for a 22lr IMHO. However, I know some people prefer something smaller.

Whatever model and in whatever shape, K-frame .22s are just about the perfect revolver. Thanks for showing us that one, which I predict you will love once you start using it.

If you are concerned about the finish, just get some flitz and polishing cloths. GENTLY polish the outside in random oscillating motions to reduce the striations and scrapes that bother you, or go after it aggressively to give it a mirror-like surface that will take out all evidence of previous knocks and bounces. There are threads in this forum about making stainless guns look a little better.

I would love a K-frame sized .22 revolver but I just can't help but balk at the price......still, 'someday' I will have one. Probably get a .357 (for about the same price) first, though.

Congrats on the new toy. Photos when you get them....Christmas morning.....remember the KODAK Open Me First??

SO, I'm not the only one who gives the package to the wife and tells her, "This is your Christmas present to me!".....

My wife loves NOT having to pick out my gifts..
