The clerk at the WallyWorld was knowledgeable, professional and patient. Took about 40 minutes. No nonsense like you hear in the horror stories. They include the $5 call in in the price. The bad news: electronic 4473, they turn the screen so you can fill it out with bubba looking over your shoulder waiting to pay for weedwhacker oil cause he can't wait the line in the garden center. $82 sales tax, coupled with the $128 (11% excise tax) is $210 tax! Manager wraps the box in so much tape to reseal it, box is "less than pristine." Of course no ammo, hasn't been in 2013. Oh yeah, I asked if the .gov gets a 4473 copy. "No, just a copy of your signature." Yep, I believe that. I'm done. Joe

They tried pulling that **** on me. I told them "no way". That's my box and I don't want it damaged with shipping tape. Give me my money back if you're going to destroy my box. Manager carried the box outside the store directly to my vehicle and handed it to me....no tape! :)

I guess I won't see you at the gunshows anymore. :D Yeah right!
What's with the 11% excise tax, we ain't non of that there stuff down here in the hinterland. I didn't know Wally World sold bazookas anymore. :D

Did you sign electronically as well? I don't know what Walmart does but the e-4473 with which I'm familiar is just a pdf form you fill out but then gets printed and signed and filed but not sent to ATF. maybe they have something different or a policy of sending information they don't have to send, I've never bought a gun there.

I think you should introduce yourself to your local gun shops. Most of the owners and employees of my LGS's have become friends and put up with all sorts of stuff from me like, you say you have six of these in the back, can I look em all over and pick the one with the best trigger pull? Try that one at the big box stores! Besides, supporting your brick and mortar gun shop means we all wont have to deal with the Chinamart in the future.

I, like the OP may have bought my last gun in this life. I really hope not but if my financial picture doesn't turn aroud (read: hit those 6 maagic numbers. I may have to limp across the the finish line with the ones I currently have.

Good lord willin' and the creek don't rise I'd still like to get the Ruger SR1911, The Henry Golden boy and of course the long coveted M&P 1522.

I know my chances are slim and none but stranger things have happened. And I just LOVE surprises. :)

Never say never

I'm doing things that I said I'd never do and not doing things that I said I would always do. If I'm not able to get more guns I'd at least like to keep the ones I've got.

BTW - That is exactly how the gun grabbers want you to think

The phone call is now internet and there was never any charge other than the cost of the business having an 800 #. My local dealer charges $10 for an FFL transfer and no one has ever charged me extra to call in when they were selling me something. In MT we still have no sales tax. I am sorry for your situatuion.

I caught that too. If we're talking about calling NICS for the background check, NICS is free. I guess some folks charge a fee, but the FBI sure doesn't, and I'm hoping no one in the Congress reads this thread and picks up on the idea. lol.

I am pretty sure that excise tax is paid for by the manufacture at the time its sold from the factory.

I dont believe that retailers pay it directly.

Edit

Taken from form linked to above

B. Who must file this form? If you are the manufacturer, producer, or importer of pistols, revolvers, other firearms, or shells and cartridges (articles), you
are required to file a return unless you fall under the exemptions provided by 26 U.S.C. 4182.

So if someone charged federal excise tax directly, seems like fraud to me...
