The question now becomes Just when will the law take effect, if it is approved by the Governor? I bet it will be a long time from now. Iowa getting the law passed is a good thing.

But how does the Governor feel about it? Is he pro gun?

Thats good news, Iowa is one of the 14 states my permit is not good in. Glad to hear more and more states are getting with the program.

New laws usually become effect July 1. The vote in the senate was 44 to 4 and 81 to 16 in house. The govenor has said in th past he would sign.
The bill give public safety commissioner power to review other states CCW in order to regognize them

It will become effective Jan 1, 2011...........

With the 44 to 4 and the 80 to 15 votes by the legislature I'm hoping the governor will see that this bill is veto proof.

However, the Iowa legislature only meets for 80 days a year! So we "shall" see.

We tried that approach in OK, but after only 4 states were recognized, the OK legislature passed univeral recognition of all state-issued licenses.

Good luck!

Excellent news for Iowans specifically, and all Americans generally!:)

Wow, this is great news. "Shall issue" might finally come to Iowa! I certainly hope the Gov signs it into law.

And I hope Iowa will honor Nevada's permits. I still have relatives in Iowa!

any state that issues a permit should be good in any state. iowa finally starts to progress out of the dark ages, with respect to gun laws.
