My wife and I have two chis. The older one, Dixie Belle, is fawn colored like yours.
It's funny, but my wife and I never liked little dogs before we bought our two babies. Now,we love them to death.

They are great for families....
They are great for families, but make great watchdogs because they typically DON'T like strangers.

I pray the vet finds the problem quickly and your dog is soon on the mend.
