I drank a little cool aid and thought some of you might like the taste as well.

First off, I want to say that I'm not saying this is the "perfect" or only gun you should carry. Just letting some who might not know about them that there's another option is out there if more mainstream handguns aren't working as well for them.

I haven't been carrying for as long as many on here but have been for awhile and tried as many different handguns as my budget would allow. I've always preferred revolvers for their looks and also I probably watched to many episodes of Adam-12 growing up. :D So when I saw a S&W 2" model 10 for a good price I bought it thinking it would be fun to try and that it would probably end up being traded or used as a house gun. Well I tried it at the range and found that I shot it as well as I did it's bigger 4" brothers even at faster speeds when under 15 yards. So next range trip I brought along a holster and ran some drills with it and boy this 2 inches made a difference in coming out of the holster!
So I started thinking about carrying it some even though it weighed as much as my G19 but only held 6 rounds but I already carried a J-frame as a BUG so I thought for light days it might be fun. I started "playing" with carrying it and found out that even though it's pretty much the same size as a compact Glock it concealed SO much easier AIWB or IWB at my 3:30 especially with boot grips. I shot it just as well as the mid size pistol that was my current EDC. (granted I'm not the very good so that's not saying a lot.)

The biggest down side compared to the newer carry guns out there is the low capacity, but I do practice reloading with both speedloaders and "speed" strips at home (with dummy rounds) and at the range while running drills. Granted I could be faster reloading a pistol with the same amount of training I'm sure, but since I can shoot it as well if not better under 15 yards and it carries easier (for me) I feel that I'm more likely to have it on me if I ever need it. So all I "need" now is the Airweight version (model 12) and I'll be set.

Thanks for reading my ramblings, just wanted to share my experance and let those of you looking for a carry gun that you might want to check out the K-frame snubs.

Graham,

Have you tried the holster out yet? How does it work for you?

FWIW, when I was still shooting PPC competitively I shot Master Class. With my Model 12 I typically gave up only 12-15 total points compared to my K-38. There is nothing wrong with how the snubbies shoot! It's all in the shooter, not the gun.

Shorty; IMHO, you might get it "round butted" and you will enjoy it even more. Then put on a set of Hogue's Bantams. I think you are on the right track. ............ Big Cholla

I didn't notice the OP specifing if RB or SB .

I actually like round butts on 2in K Frames , which is kinda unusual , as I prefer SB on everything else , including J Frames.

But yes , I definately like 2in KFrames as carry guns. And yes they shoot as well as a 4in .

Alk8944, I use the holster you made for me about once a week if not more, once I get a model 12 it will probably be used just about everyday.

Big Cholla, it is already a round butt, although I like how the square butts feel in my hand better the round butt conceals a little easier.

Biggfoot44, I've not tried a square butt J but prefer the feel of them on K's, granted I don't mind the round butt.

MarkDozier, Haha, sounds good to me.

I carried a 2" M10 as my issued weapon for years and shot high expert (98% +) consistently. Our house gun is a square butt M10 snub but I find it too heavy & bulky for EDC, preferring a 442 or M38 for that job. The snub M10 is a much underrated weapon.

Currently I am using a M12-3 4 inch BL RB for carry. Weighs about the same as a 2 inch M36. Much easier to hit with. Comfortable in the right IWB.

I wish S&W would bring this one back. And a M15 version. 2,3 and 4 inch would be nice.

Ruger has a 3 inch 5 shot that weighs less than 16 oz. It has been tempting me. Adjustable sights are nice. My M12-3 is a pretty old gun so a new one might be in order.

Second pistol I ever owned Model 10 no dash 2".
First gun I ever cc'd: same.
First gun I ever blew up with a bad reload: same
Gun I bought to replace it: Model 10-5 2". Love carrying that gun.

I've found that I actually prefer the old-fashioned sweet, sugary goodness of Kool-Aid to today's amped-up, extreme "energy" drinks 'a la Monster or Rockstar.

I've found that my model 64, while heavier, carries much easier AIWB than even a subcompact double-stack. No matter what fancy replaceable backstrap setup you have, at the end of the day you still have to put a box magazine up there which makes the grip rather box shaped by necessity. Yes, the cylinder may be a bit thicker on the K-frame, but it's only about an inch and a half long. Everywhere other than the cylinder, the revolver is quite slim, unlike most double-stack autos.

My 64 points right where I'm looking without any effort at all. The trigger is consistent and smooth. And it settles into the contours of my torso like it was custom made for me. The only thing a K-frame snubby gives up to a double stack is capacity. I would say it gives up the weight advantage as well, but that won't be true once I find a suitable model 12 :D
