I have been wanting one of these for a long time. I never seem to be able to find one locally as they have always been really hard to come by. At any rate, I was in the LGS today and there in the cabinet was a new 629 Classic, 6.5 inch full lug barrel , 629-6.
Well I didn't have the total amount of cash on me to acquire my long lusted for revolver so I stuck it on layaway for Christmas.
Wow I am so stoked. Can't wait, I am like a little boy again waiting for Santa!
Anyone have an idea when the DRR prefix dates from? My 4th edition of the Standard Catalogue doesn't have it in there.

Big layaway fan here too. Great for gun purchases since they are never something I need, right now.

Considering selling off my 629PC 2 5/8" due to arthritis and age. I can still shoot the 629 5" with stout loads but that snubbie... pain inducing...

Congrats!

You will love it, my most fired .44 mag(not that I shoot more than a box/yr through it anymore at $1/shot). 629-3, bought by accident at the Big Lakeland Show 20 years ago, when it was still the Big Lakeland Show. Joe

Thanks,
My only other .44mag is an old model Ruger SBH. I love it’s looks but I really hurts my hands to shoot it. I have a model 57 that I really like and shoot well so I think I will adapt to the 629.

I wish they still issued those stocks. The current ones are sort of boring.

These guns are fantastic. I don’t know why the trigger on my dash six is the best factory trigger in my collect…well maybe parody to my 620. Mind the majority of the collect are pre locks from Fifties to the Nineties. I lucked into this one after stopping to get gas up the street. Looked new, no flame cut or handling marks. Used guns were on sale. Got it for $475! Used up a whole lotta gun-luck on that one.

FF3 on Raptor mount was added later. 75Vette suggested it, and he was right! Love this set up.

Congrats! for me purchases like this are the reward for the long and difficult days at work. Great feeling when you finally take it home

Nice find. Congrats!! I think it will bring you joy. I have a 629-1 6". Fun to shoot lots of different loads. It's probably tied with a 5" 27-2 as my favorite gun to take to the range.

Funny, I find myself grabbing up my 28-2 more often than not. May be it now will have a rival!

Congrats on a nice find.

I just found a nice 5” -3 to go with my 6.5” -3. The classics in all calibers are great guns. Between the two, I prefer the 5”. Just seems to balance better.

I have a -4 i bought new in 1996 that is a big brother to my 6” 686. I like the full lug on any S&W. Good luck on waiting until Christmas. I would not be able to sleep at night.

This is truer than it sounds! I put 25% down on a new 27-9 last Friday. It somehow ended up in my position Monday the 3rd. I had to take it back yesterday and they will deal with an issue for me. I hope I get it back this year. S&W hit a home run with this model. The blueing is as nice or nicer than my 15-3. If I can't get the stocks to shine up some I'm gonna have to research some new ones.
Anyhow, layaway is a good concept but waiting is not fun.
