So, with a lot of patience and careful examination and questioning of several sellers, I found and bought this 1972 Model 36. I'd rate it as about 98% and I'm so pleased to have it.
Have a look at my photos - and thanks to everyone for weighing in on my previous post about looking for this!

Congrats on a very nice example added to your collection! The RB 36 is one of the all-time greats, IMHO - was just eyeballing a similar-condition example in today's local classifieds. Most examples I've had tend to shoot to POA w/basic 158grn standard velocity loads - enjoy in good health!

Yep, even my brand new 2025 M36-11 hits right on POA. Check out my review in the other sub board. S&W J frames are the most honorable and humble firearm a man can own. No gags or gimmicks, just straight business.

Another W for the forums! Happy for you man, saw the other thread and it is amazing how fast it went from exasperation to celebration! Enjoy that minty fresh Chief, you earned it!

They sure don't make them like that any more.

very nice, thanks for the follow up pics;

can you share the price and where it came from out of curiosity...(?)

The “floating J” appears for a short time in 1971/72 and once again beginning in 1982.

Similar late 1973 beginning SN J120xxx. I have 520 rounds down range since I picked it up off GB in 9/2022. Really enjoy this revolver.

I recently inherited a 1955 version of the model 36 when my father in law passed away. It also in about 98% condition. I haven't shot it yet, but having just purchased a Henry "Big Boy" revolver I need to dust off my .38 wadcutter reloads and make some holes in paper. The S&W snub nose is a pretty little pistol.

I never feel undergunned carrying an M36 or M60! My wife loves her M60, 3", target model. :)
