I found four 4506 OEM SS magazines that I forgot I still had. My only .45acp is my Brazilian 1917.

Should I sell them to someone who can use them?

Should I keep them in case I buy another 4500 series gun?

I will add the likelihood of me buying another 4500 is low. I have just a few hundred rounds and it's a lot higher than the last time I bought it. Last fall I sold about 1000rds of my $6.99 Blazer for $21 to help pay for a huge plumbing bil (didn't want to dip into savings if possible).

Save them. You can sell them later if you need the money and you will still have them in case you get another S&W .45.

I going to give you a story analogus to yours. Years ago I bought a folding Ruger Mini 14 stock at a garage sale for practically nothing. So what did I do? I went out and bought a Mini 14 with a standard stock to install in on naturally!

Since you have nothing invested cause you forgot you had them - give them to some forum members that have a 4506. These guys will do all kinds of tricks for free stuff!

I would sell them based on your info. If you do by chance get another it will come with at least 1 mag and you can "buy them back". In the mean time let some of us "Bottom Feeder" 3rd gen nuts get some use out of them. They will sell in the WTS Accessories section very quickly if priced properly. Usually $25-$30. More than that and they still might sell. From experience that is what I would be willing to pay. I am not looking for any right now so this is pretty unbiased.

I know about buying a gun to fit a mag. In 1999 I bought a new-in-wrap 3906 magazine off eBay for $3.25 shipped. In 2004 I bought a 909 for $220. Picked up two more mags on the forum, then my g/f at the time wanted to buy it since I left it at her house for her to use. We broke up after 3.5 years.

I really miss that gun :( ;)

new OEM mags for a 4506......on certain auction site you have about $150 worth of mags.......don't ask me how I know:cool:...but I could use a couple more;)

I bought a 457 because a friend found a live .45 ACP cartridge on the ground and gave it to me. I didn't have any guns in that caliber, so of course I had to buy one!

You could do what I did one time, my cousin gave me 5 boxes of 7MM Rem mag empties and I bough a 700BDL rem 7mm mag, it worked out great. Jeff

Can't say as I'd blame you!
An original Ruger Mini-14 folding stock is worth as much as the rifle without it!

I have an almost new 4506, and seems to me I have plenty of mags for it. I'd say keep them, the 4506 is a great pistol and the longer you keep them, the more they will be worth. I have some magazines with yellow followers, too. I think they are 645 or 4506 magazines, haven't tried them in the pistol.

I'll buy them for a fair price if you decide to sell them. Or, jump on the next nice S&W that can use the mags. I say jump because they're obviously not made anymore. I bought my 4506 about a year ago. It does not have a scratch on it, truly remarkable. Since the do seem to scratch pretty easy, I'd guess it was not shot a lot. Came with 6 OEM mags, four with yellow followers, two with orange, no box or papers. I paid $800, he wanted $900. I thought it was pretty steep but I knew the chances of getting another in the same condition were very low. I would have rather it been a 1006 but I'm happy. That bring's my collection of discontinued and sought after S&W's with good rep's to four. Two revolvers and two third gen auto's.

So... I guess I vote to hold on to them and keep your eyes open for another 4506.

Don't feel alone, I have a pair of Star model 30 mags which are waiting for a pistol to put them in...
oddly enough, the Stars 28/30/31 will also accept any of the 59-series mags...
always wondered if S&W was so impressed at the JSAAP trials that they just out & out copied the Stars...right down to the mags...

This is the correct answer gentleman.

The correct answer is actually sort of an all of the above.

4506
4566
4526
4546

or any of the other full size 3rd generation semi autos.

Drifting off topic a bit, I've been following the Texas Open Carry thread and the other day the thought struck me that if I were to open carry anywhere, either a 5906 or a 45xx full size version would make a fine carry piece.

Why not buy a 4506 to go with them?

The main reason????

Money

I'm not making as much as I used to, a wife and three kids (2, 3, 13) is not helping the extra money thing either.

Anything I buy I have to justify as being something I could carry
if I needed to in an armed security job. My 5906 I just bought, I could carry that because I already have duty gear for it. It would be more weight than I would want to carry, but it is suitable enough for me.

As much as I loved the 4500 guns I have owned (two 4506s, a 4583TSW, a 4586 and a 4546) I just prefer more than nine rounds for duty use around the DFW area.

Add in the cost of ammo, and I can shoot almost twice as many rounds in practice using 9mm than I can using 45acp.

Guess I'll put the mags up for sale. I can't put an ad in this thread, but I wonder if it is ok to PM people in this thread who have expressed an interest?

That's sorta spammy, but since they did say they might want them, it might be just like ham :D

If we ever do get open carry, I'll have to get a pretty holster for the new 5906 and show it off.

Of course by time we get true unregulated open carry (we can open carry on our own land, security can open carry in certain circumstances, etc) they won't be using leather for holsters anymore :D

They will be worth a lot more very soon as the election drama unfolds. Sadly now is the quiet time when most Ants should be diligently preparing.

Keep them if you can afford to... $$ in the bank. I already regret giving up some best quality stuff.
I just picked up another 645 to keep my last 645 duty gun company. Came with 2 mags. Dealer just happened to have another used mag (Genuine S&W) in the case. For $20. I grabbed it.
Real metal guns... will only appreciate.

I have had lots of S&W wheelguns over the years, but now I have just started to be interested in Gen 3 autos. Sweet. Bought a 5906 and 4506 this year. The problem is 4506 mags; the lack thereof. Both Midway and Brownell's allow them to be back ordered which I take to mean there may be some new S&W production mags on the way. Anybody out there have any inside poop from our big blue pal in Springfield MA about a possible run of 45XX mags? I don't trust used mags unless I can live fire check them. I don't trust ProMags in general.
