I have been really hot to get a 617 for a few months but I have not shot one. I was in Chicago for Christmas and I went with my sister and her hubby to shoot. She has never shot he did once before. He has 2 compact 9s one Chief Special one Glock. I really cant make him understand a full size would be a better gun to learn on but thats another story.
He wants my sister to learn to shoot these 9s but I think I have a better idea to shoot 22s I have taken quite a few Ladys started there it works well.
I really didnt want the BS of bringing guns to Chicago so I offered to rent. I wanted to get her a Ruger markII but they didnt have one so I got a Beretta Neos she loved it. Her first time shooting she did great.
But heres the good part they had a 617 so I pretended to rent it for her so she could try both I LOVED IT.
I must has burned 200 rounds I just had a ball. I need one very soon.

Accurate (more than I) smooth just darn fun
I will have one soon
I promise

I have had my 4" for several years. I have started several Lady shooters out with it.

It is a great practice gun. I really love the fact that you can shoot till your trigger finger wears out, and have burned up $18 worth of ammo.
Bulk 22 is something like 3.5 cents a round.
Cheap 38 Special practice ammo is along the line of 38 Cents a round.
That is 11 rounds of 22 for each round of 38. Much more bang for your bucks.

I like the 6 shot version. I use mine for practice. Every revolver I have except my 638 holds 6 rounds. I prefer my practice revolver to hold 6 also.

Get one you will not regret it.

I love my 617!

I replaced the front sight with a fiber optic sight and the grips with Hogue monogrips with a square butt profile.

I love the 4" 10 shot. Just added a red dot. Too cool.

My newbie 4" 651 and 3" 63 have gotten lots of recent attention, but my 9/2008 purchase of a new 4" x10 617 started the rimfire-revolver love. It will be the last to go - it really is that much fun.

I bought my new 617 from a lgs - and it would be the first DA-capable rimfire revolver I'd ever shot. I had sold my ten+ yr old Ruger KMK-678GC, a gift from my wife when we were dating, to fund the 617 - I was taking a chance. It was worth it! Shooting it is just fun. The Goodyears went first - an adjustable strain screw and Wolff standard power hammer spring were added - then the HiViz SW617 fo sight - then the DS-10 speedloader & baseplate. Shooting it is cathartic. Back to the reason we plink. I never missed the MKII - not even for a second!

K Frame .22s are a class act. It just doesn`t get much better.
Here is my 617, along with a 17-4, 18-2, 63, and a model 41.

What I found out about the 617 is that if you give it to someone to shoot it's hard to get it back...

And now you also understand why they don't come on the used marked often, and why they don't stay there long when they do.
