I “get” the 1911. (My newest Colt)

My most recent Colt 1911 is a NIb series 70 that has some interesting features (blued slide, stainless frame, commander ring hammer and old school commander grip safety). I like this setup!!

Last week I finally got to the range to try it out.

Shot 150 rounds of 230 gr. FMJ. It was 100 percent flawless, even with a mix of Colt and Wilson mags.

I was reminded how enjoyable the 1911 is at the range: it felt like a sewing machine! Each round was a wonderful experience, and if you pay attention, a 1911 cycling and recoil impulse is like no other handgun ever made.

It's just a perfect balance for carry, shooting, safety and accuracy. I keep coming back to JMB's crowning achievement.

I totally get the 1911! Anyone else feel like this?

The famous gunsmith J.B. Wood says that (paraphrasing) the 1911 "is a gun that works. Things that would jam a normal pistol won't jam a 1911." Indeed. The 1911 is over-built and heavy-duty. Keep the springs in good repair and you'll have a gun that always works. Use good ammo. Use 7-round mags, which is what they were built around. And hard-ball ammo. You don't need fancy hollow-point ammo in a 1911. No need for it.

Merry Christmas, by the way.

"What type of grip safety is this one called?"
Its commonly referred to as the "Rat Tail" grip safety.

I own a bunch of 1911's and all are Colts. I've shot pretty much all of the popular and high end 1911's out there (friends who own them have let me shoot theirs) and IMHO my 1911 Colt CGNM will do anything and everything the high end brands will do.

I will even go a step further..... The Colt's I own do not have the same
"problems" with reloaded ammo the high end ultra tight 1911's do. By the time they are sent back a few times to function with hand loads, I see no reason to buy a super tight (too tight IMO) gun and then have it loosened up. Colt 1911's just work and are super accurate. I have had zero issues with my collection of them.

I carried M1911A1's during numerous assignments, to include Nam, whild serving in the Army. I now own three to include a Colt M1911 Black Army, a Colt M1911A1 from a CMP Auction and a Remington Rand M1911A1. They have been relegated to display.

The 1911 I shoot is a Remington R1. Remington got it right on this pistol.

So yeah, I know what it is all about, and why it served as a side arm for the U.S. Military for oh so many years.

Beautiful 1911 on parade here. I think everyone is in agreement that it is one of the great firearm designs ever.
Made by just about everyone and can be purchased from less than $500 to as much as a person wants to pay. Every gun guy should own one.
Here's mine, a 20+ year old Colt Government model. It gets used for bowling pin shoots and just plain fun at the range.

Love the 1911. I have owned and carried several over the years. Although I had many carry choices, I carried a 1911 for probably 25 of my 36+ years in LE. I only have one at the present time, a full custom from CT Brian, one of the best builders in the country IMHO. I had not shot it in some time. I went to the range a couple of months ago, put up a target at about 5 yds to warm up with it. I drew and dead centered the (A) in the A zone. Then put a second shot trough the same hole on the second draw. I love the way they point and love the triggers.I could easily sell all my other carry guns and go back to carrying a 1911 except for the weight!

I've always been a big fan of 1911's. I've recently sold a few and I'm down to 6 now where I'll probably stay. Any 1911 fan knows how addictive they are.

While I like Colt I'm not partial to any specific brand. There are plenty of great ones out there in a huge range of prices.

Here's one I had built 30 years ago on a mill spec Springfield frame. It was built by Don Fraley in Kentucky. I've shot 10's of thousands of 45acp through it and it's never choked. I used to shoot USPSA matches for years and won quite a chunk of cash and guns with it. Excellent gun!
