i had to buy this rifle

cause I had this Leupold 3.5-10X scope and 120 rounds of federal match .308 ammo just lying around. picked it up today. a Ruger American. can't wait to go shoot it but it will be a few days as a good friend is having open heart surgery in Memphis Monday and my wife is having foot surgery on Wednesday. lee

Lee, congrats on the new acquisition. I have been thinking real seriously about a Ruger American...and I mean real seriously.

I was originally looking at the American in the .243 compact, but I've also given the .308 some thought.

I sure would be interested in hearing about the results of your shooting. Please give me the pros and cons about that rifle. So far, I've heard nothing but great things about it.

Again, I was leaning towards the .243, but would like to hear about the .308's performance.

I have a couple of friends that have them and both love them. one in 7-08 and the other in .308. both super accurate right out of the box. it has an adjustable trigger but neither has adjusted theirs. I don't deer hunt any more but we have some very big fox squirrels. lee

I've been thinking about an American Compact in .308. I have a fair
amount of ammo and brass and the .308 is versatile and easy to load
for. I see them advertised at widely varying prices so a bit of shopping
would be required. I don't know much about the American but I know
there have been some problems with the magazines which are mostly
plastic. How about the rifle it-self, anyone have any real problems
with one?
