After shooting the 4 5/8" Ruger New Model Flat-top...I decided I'd ask my dealer if he could get a 5.5" gun...that was two days ago. I picked it up this afternoon!

Here are a couple pics of what I'm going to suggest is the one of the best Caliber/Gun match-ups I've ever come across.

Worth a look!

I don't have any and you have two. How's that fair?
I'm gonna complain to Obama.

Very nice guns. I'm envious.

Not fair, I don't even have one yet.
Hmmmm, in fact I think under the new "share the wealth" system you're required to distribute your excess to the needy.

George,
Thanks...I could not let the opportunity pass. I love Specials!

WG840,
She IS getting big...but we are thinking she may top out between 70-75 pounds which is small for a Great Dane...but OK by us!! Thanks for the kind words...they are great shooting guns.

DGrip,
No, I'm really not...but I had to show off the new toys! I was just lucky to have a dealer who had an ability to order and receive these guns. Several have had trouble getting these.

RonJ & VAdoublegunner,
Have you guys placed orders for yours yet? Honest to goodness I waited one day for my first (the 4 5/8" gun) and two days for the 5.5" gun.

Bob

Brian,
I've not ever watched Cowboy Action Shooting...I will need to check it out sometime.

Joni,
Thanks

L. Derby,
I was under the impression that I should buy two (or six) more since he's such a gun "lover".

Bob

I agree with you, Bob. Great package for the .44 Special. I couldn't stop at just one either. My 5 1/2" just arrived Tuesday. I've had the 4 5/8's since the end of March.

I haven't done a full load developement program yet, but mine shoots well with a variation of the Skeeter load. In this case a 265 gr Keith/Thompson SWC GC over 7.5 gr Unigue.

Sorry, no pics of the 5 1/2 yet, but I'm sure no one will mind if I repost the first one.

Nice range by the way!

DGNY,
I like the 5.5gr Tight-Group behind the 200gr RNFP

Seems like a perfect load for both guns.

Roe,

Beautiful picture! I am glad to see another "Special" fan bit the bullet and bought a second gun!

Thanks for the kind words. That range get's a pretty good workout.

Bob

Bob. I think we better temper our enthusiasm before we are banished to the Ruger Forum!

Now get some nice grips on those guns! They deserve it.

Damn....Just damn. You all continue to be terrible examples. (Especially you, Bob.) I had been planning on buying a new computer, and have been busy comparing RAM, GB, CD R/W, etc; but I think it would just be easier if I got another .44 Special. I've been thinking about the Ruger, but I think I'll get a USFA instead.
(And many thanks to all of you bad examples who contributed to THAT thread.)

Ron,

Your two revolvers are in the mail and we all got the bill. I hope your happy.

Those are both fine examples of the art and you are correct - the .44 sp BH is the perfect matchup of size, weight, and caliber. Mine really likes the Blazer 200 gr GDHP load. Reloads in brass cases with the same bullet, +7.5 Unique shoot to same POI, chrono within a few fps and very consistently, are quite accurate, and very clean. The trigger was nearly perfect as issued, but a quick polish job and releasing one leg of the factory trigger spring brought it to perfection.

The new Ruger 44 Specials are pretty nice. I took my father to the range to shoot his 4&5/8" today. We shot my 5.5" a couple weeks ago.
These are the nicest single actions I've seen come out of Ruger.

If that is the case I needy one.
