I was going to post this in another thread, but decided that maybe it should go in a thread of it's own.
As you all know, school kids are coming out for more gun controls.
Why don't they control themselves? Get themselves and their friends out of the TV and video games and show that they can have a LIFE. Stop kowtowing to that 'street' philosophy where disrespect warrants immediate death. Stop repeating the stuff about death being glorious, especially if you take a lot of people with you. When you watch movies with lots of guns and violence remember that it is JUST a movie. REALIZE that there are options if you'll just use your brain to think them up instead of just saying, "I'll just have to kill myself and everybody else'. Don't pound negative stuff into your head. If you pound it in hard and long enough, that's all you can think about. Thinking like losers is a good way to become one.
Try to make contact with people that are alienated. Let them know that everybody has problems and don't always fit the mold and that it's OK to feel that way. It doesn't mean you have to end it all. And bad times don't last forever. DO SOMETHING with your life. Life is hard but it's worth living. And if you don't think so, look at the people around you that really WILL be sad when you are gone.
Don't follow paths that you know are dead ends, literally. Life is something that you have to prepare for. Don't prepare and it is guaranteed that you are going to be miserable. Get off you ***, go places and try new things. Meet different people. Don't sit in your room feeding depression with drugs and self destructive thinking. Sitting around moaning and groaning is sure to bring you down unless you break that hold it has on you. Give yourself a chance to grow up before giving up.
Our son tells me now they he doesn't like sitting around smoking pot because it keeps him from doing things that he wants and needs to do. He has plans for the future. If you don't make some kind of plans the future definitely looks lousy.
Look at 'parents'. All of the delinquent kids I know either won't live at home with rules or they only have one parent at home. The parents do all kinds of dope and make a mess of their lives but who really suffers?
Sun Tzu said that if you give orders and they are not understood, it is the leaders failing. If they do give clear orders and they are understood, then if somebody breaks the rules it is their failing and they get what they deserve.
